About The Role
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading purchasing functions, with a strong focus on trade partner management, cost control, and operational execution. This role drives competitive pricing, ensures contract compliance, and partners closely with Construction and Estimating teams to support timely and cost-effective homebuilding operations.
The Purchasing Manager exercises independent judgment in negotiating trade contracts, evaluating scopes of work, managing vendor performance, and ensuring alignment between field execution and contracted agreements.
What You’ll Do- Leads execution of the company’s purchasing strategy, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and operational priorities.
- Develops and implements sourcing strategies, pricing structures, negotiation guidelines, and approved vendor programs to drive cost efficiency and consistency.
- Continuously evaluate the trade base, identifying and onboarding new vendors to maintain a competitive and diverse supplier pool.
- Manage contract renewals, updates, and addendums in alignment with market conditions and company standards.
- Manages supplier relationships at a strategic level, including risk mitigation, supplier performance, and continuity of supply.
- Oversees complex vendor negotiations and escalations, ensuring timely resolution and protection of company interests.
- Drives continuous improvement and capability development across the purchasing function, including processes, tools, and team performance.
- Negotiate pricing and rebate agreements with major vendors/contractors
- Oversees and coaches Purchasing Agents in the negotiation of pricing, contracts, and supplier agreements, driving consistency, cost efficiency, and adherence to company purchasing strategies. Manage the tasks and workflow of administrative personnel in the department in reviewing and processing vendor documents.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Construction Management, Engineering or related field required; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
- 5+ years of negotiating experience, including leadership experience, preferably within homebuilding or construction.
- 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience required
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of estimating and purchasing principles as well as residential construction practices and materials.
- Effective negotiating skills, strong communication and time management.
- Availability to travel as needed in Houston and other Texas markets.
