Purpose: The Operations Controller is a senior finance leader for a private equity–backed, multi-entity, high growth company in the commercial openings systems industry. This role reports directly to the CFO and partners closely with the COO and Operations organization to drive financial discipline, operational insight, and scalable processes across the business. Operating in a highly acquisitive PE environment, the Operations Controller will play a critical role in integrating acquired companies, standardizing accounting and operations reporting, and supporting value creation initiatives.
The ideal candidate brings deep construction accounting expertise, strong operational finance leadership, and experience thriving in a fast-paced, sponsor-backed setting. This role requires management of a team of Accounting & Finance professionals, and interaction with regional / divisional Operations teams, corporate Accounting & Finance, Sales & Marketing, Contracts & Compliance and Supply Chain. - Lead controllership and accounting functions supporting field operations across multiple legal entities.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.
- Partner closely with Operations leadership to deliver actionable insights on job performance, margins, backlog, and execution risk.
- Build and maintain strong internal controls and financial discipline consistent with PE-backed governance expectations.
- Own construction accounting practices, including job cost accounting, work-in-progress (WIP) schedules, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Ensure revenue recognition and project accounting comply with GAAP, including ASC 606
- Review of cost-to-complete estimates, job forecasts, margin drivers, and variance analyses
- Provide financial oversight of change orders, claims, and operational contingencies.
- Serve as a Finance lead on M&A due diligence by assessing accounting practices, systems, and historical project performance.
- Play an integral role in supporting post-acquisition integration of acquired businesses.
- Support Corporate Controller to standardize accounting policies, charts of accounts, and reporting across newly acquired businesses.
- Help scale systems, processes, and controls to support continued acquisition-driven growth.
- Act as a trusted finance business partner to the CFO, COO, and Operations leaders.
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members supporting operational units.
- Collaborate with FP&A, Corporate Accounting, Tax, and Treasury to ensure alignment with enterprise goals and PE sponsor expectations.
- Support external audits, lender reporting, and other financial requirements typical of PE-backed organizations.
- Strong operational mindset with the ability to translate financial data into business decisions.
