Director of Operations – Mechanical Construction (Remote with Travel)
Location:
Remote (U.S.
-based) | ~70% Remote / ~30% Travel
Industry: Mechanical Subcontracting / Commercial Construction
Base pay range: $/yr – $/yr
Our client, a leading and highly reputable mechanical subcontractor, is seeking a Director of Operations to join their executive leadership team. The role oversees profitability, operational excellence, and project success nationwide.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage site teams, including recruitment, performance management, development, and succession planning.
- Build and foster strong relationships with clients, GCs, subcontractors, and vendors to expand business opportunities.
- Oversee profit management, KPIs, and project recovery strategies when necessary.
- Ensure project goals are clearly defined and achieved, including profitability, manufacturing targets, cash flow, and client satisfaction.
- Collaborate with project development and off-site manufacturing teams for effective execution of project plans.
- Contribute to annual budgets, quarterly updates, and regional business planning while monitoring revenue performance.
- Provide oversight during all stages of project procurement, risk analysis, and constructability reviews.
- Review and approve profit forecasts, contracts, subcontracts, and change orders.
- Champion safety culture in collaboration with the Safety Director, ensuring compliance across all projects.
- Identify future project opportunities and leverage internal/external networks to pursue them.
- Drive continuous improvement by gathering lessons learned and historical data for project quality monitoring.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical/Architectural Engineering, Business Management, or equivalent field/leadership experience.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in the construction industry, with prior senior management roles.
- Proven background overseeing projects, schedules, budgets, and large project teams.
- Experience as part of a senior leadership and/or strategic planning team.
