We are hiring a Principal Medical Writer to lead and mentor a team, set editorial direction, partner with clients as a strategic scientific voice, and deliver clear, high-quality insight‑led content. The role is UK‑based and requires the right to work in the UK.
Responsibilities- Champion best practice among the medical writing team and work closely with the Editorial Team Lead/Head of Editorial to continuously evolve and improve our service offering.
- Mentor and manage members of the writing team, supporting with resource management, training and recruitment.
- Maintain a high profile within the agency for content knowledge and expertise, and lead content for designated accounts.
- Provide scientific and strategic counsel to clients and internal teams regarding complex narratives and portfolio messaging development.
- Establish strong relationships with external scientific experts and client teams; be viewed as a valued partner.
- Proactively make recommendations for enhancing programme development and drive organic growth; lead scientific aspects of pitch development with an emphasis on complex narratives and portfolio recommendations.
- Good at understanding and communicating complex science (must hold a bachelor’s degree in the life sciences and ideally a master’s degree or PhD).
- Able to develop strong relationships based on exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, and comfortable providing advice and guidance to others.
- 5+ years of medical writing experience within a medical communications agency or an in‑house pharma med comms team, demonstrating:
- Overarching scientific and content leadership for multiple accounts.
- Responsibility for maintaining high editorial and scientific standards across a team.
- Development of junior and mid‑level writing talent through direct line management and training.
- Ability to motivate and inspire a writing team, and elevate standards of content curation.
