Position: S&T Market Leader I

About the Role

Your role is focused on providing leadership of the S&T market within the Houston office of Cannon Design. You will develop and lead high‑performance diverse teams focused on the development and implementation of the Market Business Plan. You will contribute to the success of the firm in business development, client engagement, team leadership, mentoring, and advancing the quality of work. You will manage our design services, processes and deliver financial performance for the market.

Importantly, you will be an ambassador of our brand, championing Living‑Centered Design and bringing our firm’s purpose – to help people continuously flourish – to life in every client touchpoint.

What You’ll Do
  • Expectations of Success
    • Market Growth:
      Develop new business opportunities with current and new clients to achieve top‑line targets, supporting a minimum 10% growth of the practice year over year.
    • Client Leadership:
      Lead, engage and partner with our clients on billable project‑specific work, advancing innovative solutions that differentiate the firm and foster long‑term relationships.
    • Market Brand Enhancement:
      Serve as a leading voice for the market externally and internally, visible in speaking events, writing and other promotional activities.
    • Practice Support:
      Mentor team members, recruit talent and engage in activities that advance the firm, region, market and office.
  • Areas of Focus
    • Market Leadership:
      Advance strategic initiatives, client pursuit discussions and strategies; lead development of a market business plan aligned with firm‑wide goals.
    • Top‑Line Development:
      Grow the market’s top line by identifying and pursuing new target clients and nurturing existing relationships, with a personal goal of $3.0M per year in net signed fees.
    • Client and Team Leadership:
      Lead by example, undertake active client project work and serve as a client leader or subject‑matter expert.
    • Understanding the Market:
      Identify future market trends and opportunities, demonstrating knowledge of best practices and research‑based design.
    • Bottom‑Line Success:
      Collaborate with office leaders to implement business plan initiatives; achieve a minimum of 10% firm profitability for the market each year.
    • Staff Development:
      Mentor, coach and recruit a high‑performance, diverse and inclusive team.
  • Time Commitments
    • 35% – Brand advancement and new business opportunities.
    • 45% – Client engagement on billable project work and growth of top‑line revenue.
    • 10% – Market leadership, strategy development, staff growth and related activities.
  • Performance Metrics – Targets and metrics will be reviewed periodically by Cannon Design.
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required.
  • Current registration/ licensure in Architecture, Interior Design or Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 12 years experience with a proven track record in strategic growth, market and team leadership, and business development in the S&T Market.
  • Additional certifications or training relevant to this role preferred.
  • Strong presentation skills essential.
  • Exceptional client and people leadership skills required.
  • Professional acumen and maturity demonstrated by authentic and respectful communication.
  • Strong business acumen and proven ability to create and execute strategy.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and develop high‑performing, accountable teams.
  • Sound judgement and risk‑management approach.
  • Some travel required.
