Position Description

Directs statewide operations for TxDOT Travel Information Centers (TICs), providing leadership for staffing, training, customer service delivery, budget oversight, emergency coordination, special projects, and program improvement initiatives. Responsibe for oversight and management of a geographically dispersed team supporting 12 Travel Information Centers that provide traveler information, tourism support, travel safety outreach, highway condition information, and emergency call center services. Reports to the Travel Information Division Director.

Work requires extensive coordination with TxDOT divisions, governmental agencies, travel industry professionals, private entities, and external partners to ensure consistent, compliant, and effective statewide operations. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product. Essential Duties:

  • Acts as liaison with other state and federal agencies and provides technical assistance concerning TIC programs.
  • Conducts program or project analyses and develops and recommends solutions/methods to increase productivity/efficiency and/or streamline operations.
  • Directs, manages and consults with supervisors on various statewide Travel Information Center projects, records and programs.
  • Oversees and establishes program goals and objectives, approves schedules, priorities and standards for achieving goals and directs program evaluation activities.
  • Oversees and provides direction on Travel Counselor Training Program.
  • Oversees emergency assistance provided by the Division including coordinating with districts and divisions, directing TIC
  • Oversees section activities, assigns projects and target dates, and monitors projects.
  • Represents the division at national, state and local conferences, meetings and workshops.
  • Responds to requests from the media, other travel entities and the public.
  • Reviews proposed legislation and assists in directing the implementation of legislation affecting the Section.
  • Serves as a liaison and division contact in area of expertise and represents division at state and local level.
  • Supervises professional and administrative staff.
  • Travels statewide to perform site visits and to support statewide operations.
  • Assists in the management and coordination of the Department's emergency operation efforts.
  • Supports emergency Continuity of Operations efforts, including disaster response, evacuations, emergency supply transport, and operating light and complex heavy equipment during emergency operations.
  • Responds to special requests from the Commission and the Administration.
  • Recommends staffing and funding for section.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
