Position Summary:Oversee the strategic, financial, and operational responsibilities of GWH’s Transportation Department, including the movement of supplies and equipment between locations and the Attended Donated Center (ADC) operations department.
Lead transportation operations to ensure a safe and timely flow of donations to the appropriate destinations. Responsible for the overall strategy and management of GWH’s logistics operations to ensure goods are transported efficiently and cost-effectively, and to optimize the process.
Lead ADC associates and management to ensure world‑class customer service and operational excellence. Translate corporate objectives into actionable plans and serve as the liaison between donated goods and senior leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Develop and implement annual budgets, forecasts, donation-volume targets, revenue per-pound goals, payroll-to-budget percentages, transportation dwell time, and other financial metrics.
- Provide strategic guidance and leadership to Area Managers, ADC Operations, and transportation management to ensure proper hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Ensure the ADC teams in accordance with GWH policies, procedures, and G.R.A.T.I.S. service procedures.
- Establish, track, and continuously improve GWH key performance indicators (KPI).
- Enforce and evolve standardized processes and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide operational oversight and direction to achieve the objectives of the DGP Team.
- Select, train, and develop associates to ensure safe and efficient operations and mission integration.
- Plan and adjust a transportation staffing model to meet business needs.
- Monitors GWH’s Electronic Management System (Samsara) to ensure pre-trip and post-trip inspections, driver routes are completed, Hours of Service, safety scores, etc., to ensure accident‑free driving and processing, and minimize insurance costs.
- Ensure efficient fleet operations in alignment with the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requirements and regulations, and apply as a best practice across the fleet.
- Follow up with transportation leadership and drivers to ensure routes are completed promptly.
- Collaborate with other leaders in DGP to forecast demand and ensure availability of necessary resources.
- Use linkages and routing system information to update routing schedules and manifests, and recommend improved routing and linkages for optimum donors per square foot and to meet operational needs.
- Routine monitoring of third‑party portal(s) to ensure fleet and vehicle maintenance is completed in a timely manner. Provide reports as needed.
- Monitor, assess, and document associates' performance to make improvements and/or take corrective action.
- Direct and/or conduct audits of vehicles, routes, and salvage loads by utilizing data, direct observation, Samsara, video surveillance, and any other available means.
- Ensure pre‑shift huddles occur to provide daily expectations, communicate relevant GWH policies and operating procedures, and ensure compliance with various regulatory agencies (DOT, OSHA, etc.).
- Support conducting weekly and monthly L10 meetings with transportation staff and drivers to recap operation and safety performance and drive a positive culture.
