A leading owner/operator in the energy industry is seeking an accomplished Vice President of Training to provide strategic leadership for enterprise-wide learning and workforce development initiatives. This position may be based in Houston, Texas, or at one of the organization's Gulf Coast operating facilities.

As the company continues to expand its operations, this executive will be responsible for developing and executing a long-term vision for training excellence. The Vice President will establish and lead a world-class training organization that integrates onboarding, regulatory compliance, technical competency development, leadership programs, and advanced learning technologies to support a safe, highly skilled, and operationally ready workforce.

This role will partner closely with executive leadership and operational stakeholders to ensure learning strategies align with business objectives while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Qualifications & Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or a related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in workforce training, or operational training within the energy, LNG, industrial manufacturing, refining, petrochemical, or other process industries.
  • Extensive experience designing and implementing technical training and competency management programs.
  • Demonstrated success building or transforming enterprise training organizations, learning academies, or workforce development programs.
  • Strong understanding of industrial operations, process safety, regulatory compliance, and competency-based workforce development.
  • Experience implementing modern learning technologies, simulation-based training, or immersive learning platforms.
  • Proven executive leadership with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead cross-functional transformation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute a multi-year enterprise training strategy supporting workforce readiness, technical competency, leadership development, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, HSSE, Human Resources, and other business leaders to align training initiatives with organizational priorities and operational requirements.
  • Establish a comprehensive learning framework that blends classroom instruction, digital learning, hands-on field experience, and competency-based development.
  • Drive enterprise-wide initiatives that enhance workforce capability while supporting organizational growth and operational excellence.

Training Operations & Learning Technologies

  • Lead the implementation and optimization of an enterprise Learning Management System (LMS) to manage training records, certifications, competency tracking, and learning analytics.
  • Develop and oversee a Competency Assurance Management System (CAMS) or equivalent competency framework to ensure consistent workforce qualification standards.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve technical, compliance, onboarding, and leadership development programs.
  • Oversee the planning and development of training facilities, including practical learning environments, simulation laboratories, and digital training platforms.
  • Introduce innovative learning technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), digital twins, and simulation-based training to improve workforce readiness.
  • Support leadership development initiatives that strengthen organizational capability across all levels.

Organizational Development

  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and professional development across multiple operating locations.
  • Integrate lessons learned, corrective action programs, and operational feedback into ongoing training improvements.
  • Build strategic partnerships with educational institutions, industry organizations, and subject matter experts to incorporate leading practices and emerging technologies.
  • Standardize training processes and competency expectations across the organization.

Performance Measurement & Governance

  • Establish key performance indicators to measure training effectiveness, including:
  • Time-to-competency
  • Certification completion
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Monitor program performance and provide executive leadership with regular reporting on training effectiveness, organizational capability, and return on investment.
  • Ensure governance processes support continuous improvement and long-term workforce development objectives.

** Please note, this is not an HR focused position. The ideal candidate will have substantial LNG/Oil & Gas operations or construction experience**
