Credit Union Branch leadership role

Position Summary

The Branch Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, sales growth, member or customer service, operational integrity, and regulatory compliance of a financial institution branch. This role oversees branch staff, builds business relationships, ensures strong service delivery, and achieves branch financial objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Hire, train, coach, develop, and supervise branch employees. Conduct performance evaluations, provide ongoing feedback, create staff schedules, manage staffing levels, promote a positive culture, and lead branch meetings.
  • Achieve branch goals for deposits, loans, new accounts and other products/services. Develop local business relationships, coach employees on referral and sales opportunities, identify market opportunities, and participate in community outreach.
  • Maintain strong service standards, resolve escalated concerns, build relationships with members and local businesses, and promote financial products and services that meet customer needs.
  • Oversee daily branch operations. Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, internal policies, and audit requirements. Manage cash controls, vault operations, dual control procedures, security, operational performance, and risk indicators.
  • Manage branch profitability and budget performance. Monitor financial reports and key performance indicators, execute plans to achieve financial goals, and ensure efficient use of branch resources.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Management, or a related field preferred. A high school diploma may be accepted by some institutions, especially with strong financial institution experience.
  • Five or more years of banking or credit union experience, with at least two years of leadership or supervisory experience. Experience in consumer lending, deposits, and branch operations is commonly expected.

Typical Direct Reports

In a mid-sized credit union, a Branch Manager commonly supervises roles such as Assistant Branch Manager, Universal Service Representatives, Personal Bankers, Tellers or Senior Tellers, and Relationship Bankers.

Branch Manager Emphasis

A modern high-performing Branch Manager is not only an operational supervisor. The role increasingly requires digital banking fluency, employee coaching, local market leadership, member financial education, and the ability to grow relationships while maintaining strong controls and compliance discipline.

ADA Requirements

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 5 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management.

Must by capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

Sign-On Bonus

Sign-On Bonus:
This position is eligible for a $1,500.00 sign-on bonus, payable after the successful completion of 30 days of employment. The employee must be actively employed and in good standing at the time of payment.
