As the Director, Commercial & Market Risk (Renewables), you will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, leading the assessment of market opportunities and risks across one of North America's largest and fastest-growing renewable energy portfolios. You will guide portfolio optimization, support investment and contracting decisions, and influence strategies that balance risk and return while advancing ENGIE's growth objectives.
Based in Houston, TX, you will partner closely with teams across Energy Management, Asset Management, Origination, Trading, Finance, and Development to identify revenue opportunities, evaluate market exposures, and enhance asset value throughout the lifecycle of our renewable energy investments.
What You’ll BringENGIE is committed to reshaping the energy future through the global implementation of a lower carbon energy economy to preserve the world’s natural resources. ENGIE has under management ~7 GW of Wind & Solar assets in both United States and Canada and various Independent Service Operators (ISO’s), amongst others ERCOT, SPP, PJM, MISO. Our portfolio is growing, and we expect to reach 8.5 GW by 2025 and more than 17 GW by 2030 as well as entering new ISOs.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Lead commercial strategies that maximize the value of ENGIE's renewable portfolio, including power purchase agreements (PPAs), PPA renegotiations, battery storage monetization, load‑serving opportunities, grid‑enabling technologies, renewable energy credits (RECs), capacity products, and tax credit transfer activities
- Oversee the management and optimization of uncontracted environmental and capacity attributes, including REC certification and audit activities, to enhance portfolio performance and revenue generation
- Partner with ENGIE's trading organization to develop and execute revenue optimization strategies that balance market opportunity and risk across operating assets
- Establish and oversee the annual market risk framework for ENGIE's renewable portfolio, ensuring risks are identified, evaluated, and managed in alignment with business objectives
- Provide commercial and market risk guidance for new investments, development opportunities, and power purchase agreements, recommending risk mitigation strategies that support long‑term value creation
- Review and challenge market strategies, assumptions, and hedging approaches to ensure risk‑adjusted portfolio performance while maintaining strong alignment with ENGIE's Global Energy Management and Supply organizations
- Lead, develop, and empower a high‑performing team by fostering an inclusive culture built on collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth
- Build trusted relationships across ENGIE and with external stakeholders, serving as a strategic partner who influences decision‑making and drives results
- Set clear priorities and create an environment where team members can deliver impactful work while maintaining a healthy and sustainable work‑life balance
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the power, energy, or renewable energy industry, including demonstrated knowledge of power plant operations, asset economics, and commercial market activities
- Demonstrated expertise in wholesale power markets, market risk assessment, and risk mitigation strategies, with the ability to translate market insights into commercial value creation opportunities
