Our client is seeking a strategic and experienced AVP, Total Rewards leader, to lead the strategic design, operational execution, and continuous improvement of the organization’s compensation and benefits programs. This leader will play a critical role in shaping the Total Rewards strategy, ensuring competitive compensation and benefits offerings that attract, retain, and engage top talent while maintaining operational excellence and regulatory compliance.

The AVP of Total Rewards is responsible for the overall leadership and administration of compensation, health, welfare, retirement, and voluntary benefit programs across the Health System. This role partners closely with HRIS, Finance, and Human Resources leadership to deliver innovative, cost-effective compensation and benefits solutions aligned with organizational goals. The successful candidate will bring compensation expertise, including executive compensation, market competitiveness, and governance, as well as team leadership within a complex healthcare system or a large multi-divisional organization.

Memorial Hermann Health System owns and operates 14 hospitals and has joint ventures with three other hospital facilities, including Memorial Hermann Surgical Hospital First Colony, Memorial Hermann Surgical Hospital Kingwood, and Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation Hospital-Katy.

Position Highlights & Requirements:
  • Reports to: AVP of Total Rewards reports to VP of Total Rewards
  • Direct Reports: Director of Benefits, Manager of Compensation, and Executive Compensation Specialist
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, or related field) preferred.
  • Licenses/Certifications: CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) strongly preferred. CEBS, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or similar certifications preferred.
  • Location: Hybrid Houston, Texas
Experience / Knowledge /

Skills:
  • Seven (7)+ years of progressive total rewards experience with a strong emphasis on compensation; five (5)+ years of leadership experience in large, complex healthcare organizations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in both executive compensation and broad-based compensation
  • Experience with benefits strategy, design, and administration.
  • Specific demonstrated expertise with self-insured health plans, 403(b) retirement plans, non-qualified retirement, pension plans, and voluntary benefits.
