Senior Material Handler

Overview

Powell is a manufacturer of switch gear and other electrical equipment. We are currently hiring a Sr. Material Handler at our Southeast Houston manufacturing facility.

• Responsible for the receipt, stocking and record keeping of new and existing materials.
• Communicate with staff and management team to identify material needs.
• Fill workstations with appropriate hardware and material, as identified.
• Maintain records of materials using a scanner or designated computer program.
• May utilize a forklift to transport, load and unload materials.
• Must learn and adhere to all safety policies and practices to avoid safety incidents.
• Must learn and adhere to all manufacturing policies and practices to ensure consistent production.
• Ensure quality by following standard work/process instructions and identifying any potential risks to product quality.

• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma preferred.
• 4 years of experience in a material handling role within a manufacturing environment.
• Capable of working in a fast-paced manufacturing atmosphere.
• Ability to learn computer systems, databases and a variety of software programs.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
• Ability to walk, stand and be physically active for extended periods of time.
• Fluent in English and capable of communicating with co-workers.

• Forklift experience preferred.
• Previous experience in an Industrial or Warehouse setting.

• Ability to multi-task with attention to detail.
• Capable of maintaining an organized work area.
• Must be self-motivated and proactive.
• Willing to work flexible shifts, including days, nights, and weekends as needed.

• Safety sensitive position in a temperature-controlled manufacturing or industrial environment with occasional outside activities.
• Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety shoes, hard hats, bump caps, safety glasses, and hearing protection at times, with safety harnesses/fall protection equipment as required.
• Must be able to work from all types of ladders (step ladders, A-frame ladders) continuously and/or scissor lifts while performing overhead work.
• Working at heights usually no higher than 10 feet in the air on an elevated structure using proper lift equipment.

• Able to maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs or step ladders.
• Bending the body at the waist and knees, and extending arms and hands in any direction.
• Continuous standing and walking.
• Able to use upper extremities frequently, work with both arms above shoulders and use both arms at full length frequently.
• Must be able to meet physical lifting demand up to 50lbs.
• Frequent use of hand tools and power tools.
