Houston, TX:
Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a 1st Shift Welder – Engineered Products to join our Operations Department at our Houston, TX facility. The Welder – Engineered Products will perform a variety of welding and fabrication operations on rotating equipment components and assemblies to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and quality standards. This position supports production activities through MIG, TIG, and stick welding of carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy materials used in steam turbines, axial compressors, hot gas expanders, power turbines, screw compressors, and related turbo machinery.

The Welder will promote safe work practices, proper use of equipment, and adherence to quality requirements in all phases of fabrication, repair, and assembly while supporting first shift production demands. The position may also support operations at our Pearland, TX facility as needed.

Essential Duties:
• Perform MIG, TIG (GTAW), stick, and SAW welding on engineered rotating equipment components and assemblies.
• Fabricate centrifugal compressor impellers using “slot” and traditional fillet welding techniques.
• Complete pre-work setups including positioners, thermal blankets, induction heaters, and related equipment.
• Conduct visual inspection of welds and perform grinding and upgrade techniques as required.
• Inspect and record measurements of component parts to customer, OEM, and industry specifications using precision measuring instruments and gauges.
• Track and manage usage of welding consumables such as burrs, torch tips, and temperature sticks.
• Perform repair work on stationary and rotating turbo machinery components including compressors, turbines, and pumps.
• Maintain continuity logs and successfully pass in-house Welding Procedure Qualifications (WPQ).
• Notify Quality and Production Leadership of non-conformities and support timely resolution.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in alignment with company safety policies and procedures.
• Support additional projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements/

Skills:

• High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution required; post-secondary education in a welding-related field preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with compressor or turbine rotors and related components.
• Expert-level proficiency in manual GTAW welding; experience with automatic welding and in-house automatic SAW machines preferred.
• Strong knowledge of rotating equipment including centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, axial compressors, hot gas expanders, power turbines, and screw compressors.
• Proficient in the use of precision measuring equipment such as micrometers and calipers.
• Ability to pass in-house WPQ testing and maintain required documentation logs.
• Strong organizational, communication, basic computer, and math skills.
• Safety-first mindset with the ability to follow all safety policies, procedures, and instructions.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Ability to act professionally under stressful situations.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and able to pass required drug, alcohol, and background screenings as applicable.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs. (with assistance).
• Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance for extended periods during the shift.
• Ability to work a minimum of 8 hours per day in a shop environment, primarily standing and sitting.
• Ability to perform constant pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, and other physical activities.
• Ability and willingness to work around and use large propane and acetylene torches.
• Ability to operate small lifts, pallet jacks, and other lifting equipment.
