Position SummaryThe Forklift Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining propane, diesel, and electric forklifts and other powered industrial trucks used in a manufacturing environment. This role ensures safe, reliable operation of material handling equipment to support production and warehouse operations.
Requirements- Perform preventive maintenance on forklifts and powered industrial equipment
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and fuel system issues
- Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, and mast assemblies
- Troubleshoot electrical systems including batteries, charging systems, and wiring
- Perform hydraulic cylinder repairs and hose replacements
- Conduct safety inspections in accordance with OSHA standards
- Maintain service logs and repair documentation
- Order and manage replacement parts inventory
- Respond to emergency equipment breakdowns on the production floor
- Ensure compliance with company safety standards and PPE requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2–5 years’ experience in forklift or heavy equipment repair
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems and schematics
- Experience with electrical diagnostics
- Ability to read technical manuals and service diagrams
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods (8+ hours)
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs. independently
- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and manual handling of materials required
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Ability to tolerate noise, heat, and dust in a manufacturing environment
- Visual acuity to read measuring tools, drawings, and detect quality defects
- Must pass initial and ongoing physical or occupational health screenings and fitness for duty test (e.g., lifting assessment, vision test, hearing test, etc.)
- Must be able to wear required PPE, including steel-toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection
Manufacturing floor with exposure to moving mechanical parts, sharp materials, and moderate to loud noise. May be exposed to hot or cold environments depending on season. Work schedule may include overtime, weekend shifts, or on-call schedules as needed.
