North Harris Area Office Laboratory, Humble, Texas

Job Overview:
The Material/Process Inspector I performs material testing in laboratories, plants, roadways, and at points of supply. This position reports to a licensed Professional Engineer who has full authority to approve all work performed.

Responsibilities
  • Performs material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants, and/or at points of supply.
  • Conducts nuclear density tests on subgrade, base and asphaltic concrete pavement.
  • Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors, material producers and suppliers.
  • Investigates compaction problems associated with hot mix asphaltic concrete.
  • Maintains and calibrates equipment.
  • Performs tests and inspection duties.
  • Reports test results to field construction personnel and may assist in determining causes for material problems.
  • Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing.
  • Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses, and project sites to monitor status of programs.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent in general high school studies.
  • Experience: No experience required (experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).

    Valid driver’s license; ACI Cncrt Fld Test Tech‑Grd I; HMA Roadway Spec‑IB;
    Cert Soils & Flex Bases SB202;
    Cert Soils & Flex Bases SB101;
    Cert Soils & Flex Bases SB102;
    Cert Soils & Flex Bases SB201;
    Cert Soils & Flex Bases SB103; ACI Cncrt Strength Test Tech.
  • Attention to detail and review of information to identify errors and problems; ensuring consistency and clarity of information.
  • Performing calculations using algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
  • Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems.
  • Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others.
  • Exercise logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; make decisions that support business objectives and goals.
Physical Requirements
  • Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes.
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • Subject to hazards such as moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals.
  • Subject to atmospheric conditions including fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, and poor ventilation.
  • Subject to exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
  • Required to wear protective gear—respirator, hard hat, or other devices.
  • Light work: lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
  • Kneeling—bending legs at knee to come to rest on knees.
  • Hearing: perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication.
  • Close visual acuity—using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts.
  • This job is physically demanding and requires a pre‑employment physical.

Salary and Work Details

Minimum Salary: $45,521.00

Maximum Salary: $71,055.00

Pay Basis: Yearly

Work Location: North Harris County, Ae/Maint 16803 EASTEX FREEWAY Humble 77347

Travel: 25 % of the time

Shift: Day Job;
Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM;
