A Snapshot of Your Day
A day in the life of a welder specializing in stainless steel pipe for gas turbine and compressor packages begins early in the workshop, with a morning briefing to review project goals and priorities, and where the welder reviews project specifications and safety protocols. The morning is spent preparing materials, cutting, and fitting stainless steel pipes, and ensuring all components meet quality standards.
HowYou’ll Make an Impact
- Perform work following all safety procedures and policies.
- Weld: tack and certify mechanical welding as required.
- Work and operate cutting rigs, welding machinery and measuring tools.
- Review, interpret complex assembly instructions, drawings and schematics, specs and blueprints.
- Able to use and understand computers.
- Tag all equipment needed for assembly and safely offload incoming parts from transport using proper lifting/rigging equipment and technical questions.
- High School Diploma or GED or 10+ years relevant experience with stainless steel welding.
- 5+ years relevant experience in welding and fabricating stainless steel pipe for the assembly of rotating equipment packaging and testing.
- Experience and trained in welding and cutting tools and processes.
- Inspects repairs, replaces, installs, and maintains all mechanical components, assemblies on gas turbines and compressor associated packages.
- Qualification of pipe WPS and welding personnel shall conform to ASME B31.3 Process Piping Code (GTAW P8 6G – must pass test).
- Set up and operate manual lathes to manufacture precision components according to engineering drawings, sketches, and specifications.
- Operate manual end mills to perform milling, drilling, tapping, and other machining operations.
- Preferred expertise in Siemens Energy turbo machinery equipment assembly, including:
- SGT 100–400
- A‑35 / A‑65 Gas Turbine and compressor packaging
- RF and Datum range turbo‑compressors
