This role focuses on performing high-quality TIG welding on carbon steel pipe assemblies of various diameters, using TIG and flux-core processes. You will also support the fabrication process by fitting and tacking your own work as needed, ensuring safe, accurate, and efficient completion of projects in a busy shop environment.
Responsibilities- Perform TIG welding on carbon steel pipe assemblies across a range of outside diameters, following specifications and quality standards.
- Use flux-core welding processes on pipe as required by project and procedure.
- Assist with fitting and tacking your own pipe work, ensuring proper alignment and fit-up prior to welding.
- Support general pipe fabrication activities, including measuring, cutting, and preparing materials for welding.
- Apply pipe fitting skills to fit pipe, structures, and vessels as needed to support production demands.
- Interpret and follow work instructions, basic drawings, or layouts to complete welding and fabrication tasks accurately.
- Inspect welds visually to verify quality and identify any defects that require repair or rework.
- Operate safely around heavy equipment and comply with all shop safety rules and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safe and efficient operations.
- Collaborate with other welders and fabrication staff to meet production schedules and project deadlines.
- At least 3 years of TIG welding experience, preferably on carbon steel pipe.
- Proficiency in TIG welding techniques for pipe welding applications.
- Ability to weld using flux-core processes.
- Ability to weld using stick welding processes.
- Experience with pipe welding in a fabrication or shop environment.
- Ability to perform basic fitting and tacking of your own work.
- General fabrication skills related to pipe, structures, and vessels.
- Strong attention to safety when working around heavy equipment and in a busy shop.
- Ability to work day shift hours and Saturdays as needed.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong stick welding experience is a plus.
- Ability to fit pipe, structures, and vessels is a plus.
- Prior experience in a large fabrication shop environment is beneficial.
- Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled environment.
The role is based in a large, non-climate-controlled fabrication shop that houses heavy equipment, making safety a top priority at all times. You will work in a busy, production-oriented environment with frequent interaction around machinery and materials handling. The standard schedule is a day shift from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with Saturdays worked as needed to meet production requirements.
You should be prepared for physical work in varying temperatures and to follow all safety protocols and protective equipment guidelines appropriate for a heavy industrial shop setting.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX 77064.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $35.00/hr.
