Application Engineer
Sales and Product Management (SPM) Digital Platform helps Oil Company drive towards higher returns and lower carbon, accomplishing this with a focus on customer-centricity in order to increase customer lifetime value, share-of-wallet, market share, and realized price while decreasing customer effort and cost-to-serve. Digital products are utilized in 11 countries across 4 regions around the world. Scope spans product formulation and blending, marketing, sales and profit, service, commercial trading, and retail operations, enabling profitable sales and trades of everything Chevron produces or refines.
Application Engineer will report to a Sub-Chapter Head and will be assigned to work with the Company Owned and Company Operated (COCO) Technologies Team within SPM Platform. This team supports the Company Owned and Company Operated gas stations and Retail Technologies onsite.
This position collaborates with other IT colleagues (Software Engineers, Application Engineers, Data Engineers, Architects, etc.) in the planning, design, configuration, or development of IT solutions, with a primary focus on maintaining vendor software and optimizing evergreen support through configuration, automation, and integration.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Partners with Product Owner in forming vision, direction, and priorities
- Consistently delivers complex, innovative, and complete solutions, driving them through design, planning, configuration, development, deployment, and support that simplify business processes and workflows to drive business value
- Works with software engineers, data engineers, and architects to collaboratively deliver applications, interfaces, and IT services as needed
- Applies in-depth knowledge of business domain to develop and enhance business workflows, as well as in troubleshooting of any system issues.
- Leads or supports system testing and user acceptance testing
- Participates in moving software from test to production leveraging good IT software engineering principles
- Ensures all solution components are well documented
Critical Selection Criteria:
Technical Depth:
- Demonstrated experience in all phases of Software Development Lifecycle (plan, design, develop, test, release, maintain and support, decommission)
- Experienced with Downstream Retail Technologies (i.e. Back Office Systems, Point of Sale, Pricing, Payments)
- Blue Yonder Enterprise Store Operations (BOS)
- Gilbarco Passport (POS)
- Experienced working within a Scrum team using SAFe methodology
Business Acumen:
- Demonstrated strong understanding of business processes (specifically in the sales, retail, and customer service areas)
- Demonstrated business financial skills. Demonstrated ability to perform cost benefit analysis at a technical level.

Required Skills:
At least 5 years of experience Good Communication, need to be able to walk someone on the phone through how to fix it. Experience handling tickets. Experienced with Downstream Retail Technologies (i.e. Back Office Systems, Point of Sale, Pricing, Payments) These are the 2 POS systems that Chevron uses, but they are open to candidates with experience with other POS Systems.

Notes:
This position is Hybrid Remote/On Site. They will do 2-3 days a week on site, and 2-3 days a week remote. They can sit out of the Houston, TX office or San Ramon, CA.
