JobOverview
A shop grinder operates grinding machines and power tools to smooth, shape, or polish metal and other materials. They are responsible for setting up equipment, interpreting blueprints, removing excess material, and ensuring finished products strictly conform to design specifications and quality control standards. The role directly reports to the Supervisor.

- Set up, operate, and maintain various grinding equipment, including hand‑held grinders.
- Interpret technical drawings, and work orders to ensure parts are ground to the correct dimensions and tolerances; smooth and finish surfaces, remove excess metal, deburr parts, and chip or grind away excess welds, rust, and scale.
- Inspect and measure finished parts against specifications using precision instruments like micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Remove excess material, sharp edges, and imperfections from parts.
- Perform routine machine adjustments to maintain product quality.
- Perform routine maintenance on machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and replacing worn grinding wheels.
- Conduct quality checks and document production results.
- Follow all safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and company policies.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Maintain accurate production records and other relevant documentation.
- Work involves frequent lifting of materials up to 50 pounds.
- Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment.
