CNC Machinist
We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to program, set up, and operate CNC lathes and mills to produce precision components to specification. The ideal candidate will read and interpret blueprints, write and optimize G-code, apply GD&T principles to ensure part conformity, and perform quality inspections using precision measuring tools. This role supports production targets while maintaining safety and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, program, and operate CNC lathes (and mills as needed) to meet production schedules and quality specifications.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to determine machining requirements and tolerances.
- Create, edit, and optimize G-code programs to improve cycle times, reduce scrap, and maintain tool life.
- Apply GD&T principles to ensure parts meet dimensional and geometric tolerances.
- Perform in-process and final inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and CMMs; document inspection results and maintain quality records.
- Troubleshoot machining issues, make necessary adjustments to tooling, feeds, and speeds, and report recurring problems.
- Maintain machine cleanliness, perform routine maintenance, change tooling, and follow lockout/tagout procedures.
- Collaborate with engineers, quality, and production teams to resolve non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
- Follow safety protocols, maintain a clean work area, and adhere to company quality and safety standards.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on experience operating and programming CNC lathes; experience with CNC mills is a plus.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Proficient in writing and editing G-code; familiarity with CAM software is beneficial.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and applying geometric tolerances to machined parts.
- Experience using precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges) and performing first-article inspections.
- Technical diploma or certificate in machining, manufacturing technology, or equivalent on-the-job experience.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills and experience with shop floor documentation and production tracking systems.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods; commitment to workplace safety and quality.
