We are seeking an experienced Manual Machinist with a minimum of 5 years of experience working on pumps and rotating equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong experience operating manual lathes, VTLs, and milling machines while maintaining close tolerances and producing high-quality precision parts. This role requires blueprint reading, machine setup experience, align bore capabilities, and the ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Responsibilities- Set up and operate multiple production machines safely and efficiently.
- Perform machining operations where materials, tooling, and sequences have been pre-planned and established.
- Operate manual lathes, VTLs (Vertical Turning Lathes), milling machines, and related shop equipment.
- Perform align boring operations as required.
- Read and interpret blueprints, route sheets, specifications, and verbal instructions.
- Make necessary machine adjustments and report improper machine functioning or cutting action for correction.
- Adjust machine feeds, speeds, and depth of cut to produce quality parts according to specifications.
- Deburr precision and complex machine parts using hand and power tools.
- Inspect parts for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments including:
- Calipers
- Micrometers
- Gauges
- Comparators
- Magnification equipment and microscopes
- Accurately perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) requirements specific to company standards.
- Follow established manufacturing methods using standard production machines, tooling, and materials.
- Actively support lean manufacturing initiatives by identifying improvement opportunities and applying lean concepts in daily operations.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in compliance with all company safety policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Minimum of 5 years of manual machining experience, preferably in pump repair or rotating equipment manufacturing.
- Strong experience operating:
- Manual Lathes
- Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs)
- Milling Machines
- Ability to perform align boring operations.
- Experience with machine setup and production machining.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Knowledge of machine shop mathematics, including basic trigonometry.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
- Strong understanding of machining tolerances and quality requirements.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision while contributing to a team environment.
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Previous experience in pump repair, manufacturing, or heavy industrial machining environments.
- Familiarity with SPC processes and quality documentation.
- Industrial machine shop environment.
- Frequent standing, lifting, bending, and operating heavy machinery.
- Must be able to safely handle materials, tools, and equipment in a manufacturing setting.
