This position properly cleans, tins, and applies babbitt to ferrous and non‑ferrous bearings. Responsibilities include preparing, cleaning, and babbitting machine components using various processes such as spinning, TIG, or puddling.
Responsibilities- Work from routings, drawings, process sheets, setup sheets, and verbal instructions.
- Follow babbitting SOP including cleaning, acid washing, dipping or coating in molten tin, adding babbitt via spinning, or static pouring.
- Maintain a clean and orderly workspace to 5S standards.
- Work safely, wearing protective eye wear and gloves.
- Fill out in‑process inspection reports as required.
- Notify supervisor of damaged material or discrepancies.
- Disassemble, repair, and reassemble bearings as required.
- Inspect own work to ensure tolerances and finishes are as prescribed.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5–10 years of related experience.
- Ability to perform basic mathematics in all units of measure.
- Determine required tools and equipment for a job.
- Ability to set up manual machines.
- Experience machining finish‑grade components to tight tolerances.
- TIG and/or welding experience.
- Experience with ultrasonic testing and dye‑penetrant testing.
- General bearing knowledge.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for precision technical plans.
- Ability to read blueprints to determine operational methods.
Regular standing, walking, handling, and reaching. Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds; occasionally up to 30 pounds. Vision requirements include distance, color, peripheral, depth perception.
Working ConditionsWork near moving mechanical parts. Exposure to wet, humid conditions and extreme heat. Moderate noise level.
