Facilities Maintenance Technician - Waste Technician - PART TIME
The Waste Technician is responsible for the safe, compliant handling, characterization, storage, and shipment of hazardous, non-hazardous, and medical waste generated within a pharmaceutical Cell & Gene Therapy manufacturing facility.
This role supports Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) initiatives by ensuring compliance with DOT, EPA, and RCRA regulations while maintaining a safe, organized, and compliant manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities- Perform waste characterization for hazardous, non-hazardous, and medical waste streams.
- Segregate, label, package, and store waste according to regulatory requirements and compatibility guidelines.
- Prepare waste shipments in accordance with DOT, EPA, and RCRA regulations.
- Verify waste containers are properly filled, labeled, sealed, and compliant prior to shipment.
- Prepare and maintain shipping documentation, including:
- Hazardous Waste Manifests
- Land Disposal Restriction (LDR) Forms
- Bills of Lading
- Ensure all outgoing shipments meet Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). labeling, marking, and placarding requirements.
- Conduct routine inspections of waste accumulation areas to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Maintain accurate records of waste generation, storage, transportation, and disposal activities.
- Support internal audits and regulatory inspections.
- Work closely with laboratory and manufacturing personnel to ensure proper waste handling practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve waste management processes and reduce waste generation.
- Follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and environmental regulations.
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry
- 4+ years of waste management experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, or regulated manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of hazardous waste regulations including: EPA, DOT, RCRA, State environmental regulations
- DOT Hazardous Materials Training (or ability to obtain)
- RCRA Training (or ability to obtain)
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to safely handle hazardous materials while following strict procedures.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including respirators when necessary.
- Comfortable working in both laboratory and manufacturing environments.
