Baler Operator - 2nd Shift
Purpose of Role The Baler Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the baling machine to compress and package scrap metal materials for shipping or storage. This role plays a key part in ensuring efficient yard operations and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Principal Accountabilities
- Operate baler equipment to compress scrap metal into bundles or bales.
- Monitor and adjust machine settings for optimal performance.
- Feed materials into baler while ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on baler equipment.
- Inspect materials for contaminants and ensure only acceptable metals are processed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization around the baler area.
- Record production data and complete daily logs as required.
- Communicate with team members and supervisors to coordinate workflow.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience
Required:
High School diploma or GED 1-3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Forklift certification or experience operating heavy equipment (a plus). Knowledge of different types of scrap metals and sorting procedures. Experience maintaining baler or other recycling equipment.
Skills:
Ability to safely operate, monitor, and maintain metal baling machines. Basic mechanical aptitude – For troubleshooting minor equipment issues and performing routine maintenance Experience with forklifts, skid steers, or other yard machinery (a plus). Understanding of scrap metal types – Ability to identify and sort various ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Work Environment:
Primarily warehouse and outdoor environment with exposure to noise, dust, and heavy equipment. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs, climb, bend, and work in physically demanding conditions. Weekend or extended hours may be required depending on business needs.
