Position: Blaster Level 1/2 Day Shift

Blaster - Day Shift

A Blaster is responsible for preparing metal surfaces on pressure vessels, skids, piping, and other fabricated equipment by abrasive blasting. The position removes rust, mill scale, old coatings, dirt, and other contaminants to prepare surfaces for painting or protective coatings.

Typical Responsibilities
  • Operate abrasive blasting equipment to clean and prepare steel and fabricated components.
  • Blast pressure vessels, piping, structural steel, skids, and other industrial equipment.
  • Prepare surfaces to the required cleanliness and surface-profile specifications.
  • Inspect surfaces before and after blasting.
  • Remove rust, scale, paint, grease, dirt, and other contaminants.
  • Set up and operate blast pots, hoses, nozzles, compressors, and related equipment.
  • Select appropriate abrasive media and blasting pressure for the job.
  • Maintain proper blasting distance, angle, and technique.
  • Protect areas and components that should not be blasted.
  • Perform basic equipment inspections and report damaged or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Maintain adequate abrasive material and keep the work area clean.
  • Follow production schedules and work instructions.
  • Use proper PPE, including respirators and supplied-air equipment when required.
  • Follow OSHA, company, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and support 5S standards.
  • Work safely around cranes, forklifts, vessels, welding operations, and other industrial equipment.
  • Perform other fabrication-yard duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Skills
  • Previous abrasive blasting or industrial coating preparation experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a fabrication, manufacturing, shipyard, oil & gas, or industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of blast equipment and abrasive media.
  • Ability to read work instructions and understand surface-preparation requirements.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety procedures.
  • Ability to wear respiratory protection and required PPE.
  • Forklift, overhead crane, rigging, or material-handling experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work in confined or elevated areas when properly trained and authorized.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a fabrication team.
