Every compressor and engine that keeps oil, gas, and power moving across North America depends on parts machined to the tightest tolerances — and for over 190 years, that precision has run through Cooper Machinery Services. As the OEM behind legendary product lines like Cooper-Bessemer™ Ajax™ Superior™ and Enterprise, we're looking for a Machinist III to bring hands-on craftsmanship and CNC expertise to our Pacific Northwest facility.
If you take pride in work measured in thousandths of an inch, and you want that precision to matter to a global energy infrastructure, this is your shop floor.
- Machine parts to precise specifications using a CNC Mazak Mill with Mazatrol controls.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work.
- Perform repair and restoration of parts to keep customer equipment running.
- Conduct dimensional layout on machined parts to verify conformity to prints and routing instructions, completing all required documentation.
- Set up and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, jaw attachments, and materials on machines.
- Monitor machine feed and speed throughout the process, adjusting offsets for wear, geometry, and cutter compensation.
- Identify and execute the right surface finish for each job, then deburr and stamp parts to spec.
- Read job cards to determine product details, machining time, and quantities.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow all PPE and safety protocols.
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited school or institution.
- 5–8 years of CNC machining experience, ideally in oil & gas, power generation, or heavy equipment.
- Advanced skill with precision measuring tools — dial and Vernier calipers, , depth mics, ball mics, and similar instruments.
- Certified to operate a forklift, pallet jack, and crane.
- Comfortable with a range of metal-cutting machinery and strong mechanical aptitude.
- Able to lift at least 40 pounds and perform physical work involving standing, bending, and kneeling.
- Solid math, computer, and communication skills, with the ability to read and act on product specifications and drawings.
- Flexible and dependable — willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as the business requires.
- Hands-on experience specifically with Mazak equipment and Mazatrol programming.
- Background machining large, complex reciprocating engine or compressor components.
- Track record of mentoring less experienced machinists on the floor.
- Familiarity with quality systems and formal inspection documentation in a manufacturing environment.
- Most benefits are effective on your first day — no waiting period.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Company-paid life, AD&D, short-term, and long-term disability coverage (6-month short-term disability waiting period).
- Voluntary life, AD&D, and long-term disability buy-up plans.
- Voluntary accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity insurance plans.
- 401(k) with up to 5% company match — employees are 100% vested on day one.
- Maternity and parental leave, Arc Fertility Benefits, and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for mental health support.
