Fitter

This role focuses on fitting and fabricating silencers, pressure vessels, and large valves primarily made from carbon steel. The fitter assembles vessels, pipes, and shells, fits structural supports and components, and performs light welding using MIG and flux-core processes. The position involves working from blueprints, using fabrication equipment, and contributing to high-quality, precision-built products in a clean, climate-controlled shop.

• Fabricate and fit silencers, pressure vessels, and large valves primarily using carbon steel materials.
• Fit and assemble vessels, pipes, and shells, ensuring accurate alignment and proper fit-up of all components.
• Fit lifting supports and legs onto rolled plate sections according to specifications and blueprints.
• Fit weld caps onto pipe and ensure proper preparation and alignment for welding.
• Fit up flanges and nozzles onto material, ensuring correct orientation, spacing, and squareness.
• Burn holes in material as required, then clean, bevel, and square them to meet dimensional and quality requirements.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine layout, measurements, and fabrication details.
• Perform basic math to calculate dimensions, fit-up requirements, and material allowances.
• Perform light welding using MIG and flux-core processes to tack, assemble, and complete welds as needed.
• Operate fabrication machines such as presses, punches, saws, and torches safely and effectively.
• Use a plasma torch to cut and prepare materials for fitting and welding operations.
• Support sub-arc welding operations when capable, assisting with fit-up and preparation of sub-arc weld joints.
• Work as a pipefitter or vessel fitter, fitting vessels and pipe to specified tolerances and standards.
• Inspect completed fit-ups and assemblies to verify accuracy and quality prior to welding or final assembly.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area within the shop.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and quality requirements.

• Minimum of 5 years of fitting and fabrication experience.
• Proven ability to fit vessels and pipe accurately and efficiently.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings.
• Proficiency in MIG welding for light welding tasks.
• Proficiency in flux-core welding for fabrication and fit-up work.
• Ability to use a plasma torch for cutting and material preparation.
• Experience as a pipefitter or vessel fitter working with carbon steel.
• Strong basic math skills for measurements, layout, and fit-up calculations.
• Ability to operate fabrication machines such as presses, punches, saws, and torches.
• Capability to burn, clean, bevel, and square holes and edges to required specifications.

• Ability to weld using sub-arc processes.
• Ability to weld using TIG processes.
• Experience working with various gauges of material.
• Comfort using a wide range of fabrication machines and shop tools.
• Experience working with carbon steel silencers, pressure vessels, and large valves.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

The work takes place in a clean, air-conditioned shop environment. The primary schedule runs from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with most Saturdays and Sundays also available or required. Candidates should be comfortable working long shifts, including 13-hour days during busy periods. The role is part of an open-ended contract with work projected through the end of the year and likely beyond, offering a stable and consistent workload.

The environment includes regular use of fabrication equipment such as presses, punches, saws, torches, and welding machines in a structured shop setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX 77032.

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $29.00/hr.
