Cylindrical Grinding Department Manager; OD

Position: Cylindrical Grinding Department Manager (OD/ID)
About the Role Based in Houston, TX 77023, you’ll lead our cylindrical grinding operations—both OD and —ensuring every part that leaves the department meets exacting standards. You’ll balance people leadership with production excellence, guiding a skilled team while keeping machines humming and schedules on target.

A Day in the Department Your morning starts with reviewing the production plan and quality metrics, followed by a quick huddle to align machinists on priorities and safety. You’ll walk the floor, check equipment health, and coordinate preventive maintenance to keep downtime low. Throughout the day, you’ll collaborate with peers in planning and quality, analyze reports to remove bottlenecks, coach teammates, and, when needed, jump on a manual lathe yourself to keep commitments on track.

What You’ll Own Oversee daily OD/ workflows to hit schedule, cost, and quality targets.

Mentor and develop machinists; foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Implement and manage maintenance schedules to minimize unplanned downtime.

Interpret production data and drive corrective actions for sustained gains.

Champion safety practices and compliance across the department.

Partner with adjacent teams to streamline handoffs and elevate throughput.

Plan and deliver training on best practices and new technologies.

Operate a manual lathe when production requires hands-on support.

Qualifications Hands-on OD/ background with 3+ years supervising a machining  knowledge of machining processes, tooling, and grinding equipment.

Proven leadership with strong communication and coaching skills.

Analytical problem-solver with exceptional attention to detail.

Well-versed in manufacturing safety and quality systems.

High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or machining certification preferred.
