PHE Mechanic Trainee

The PHE Mechanic Trainee supports the refurbishment of plated heat exchangers by assisting in the shipping, machining, and welding areas. You will work closely with assemblers and welders, performing tasks that range from minor assembly and material handling to cleaning and organizing work areas. This role offers hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment and a clear path to grow into a mechanic-level position.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the refurbishment of plated heat exchangers in the shipping, machining, and welding areas.
  • Perform minor assembly tasks using hand tools and basic mechanical methods.
  • Constantly lift, move, and stack materials safely throughout the shift.
  • Receive, count, document, and label parts accurately to maintain proper inventory records.
  • Sweep, clean, and organize work areas to maintain a safe and efficient workspace.
  • Read and interpret drawings and blueprints to understand job requirements and component specifications.
  • Inspect materials for irregularities and document findings through written records and photographs.
  • Follow instructions carefully and complete tasks with strong attention to detail.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment, adapting to changing tasks and daily priorities.
  • Operate forklifts and overhead cranes, if experienced and authorized, to move materials and equipment as needed.

Essential

Skills:

  • At least 1 year of experience as a welder helper, in assembly, or in a mechanical role.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to use hand tools and perform basic mechanical tasks.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity.
  • Ability to follow directions closely and listen effectively.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Stable work history, demonstrating commitment and reliability.
  • Capability to perform constant lifting, moving, and stacking of materials.
  • Comfort working in a general labor and mechanical environment.

Additional Skills &

Qualifications:

  • Experience in automotive mechanics is highly valued.
  • Experience supporting welders or working in fabrication or refurbishment environments.
  • Strong attention to detail when inspecting and documenting material irregularities.
  • Comfort using basic documentation tools, including taking photographs for records.
  • Ability to adapt to different tasks and responsibilities from day to day.
  • Willingness to work extended shifts, including weekends, when needed.

Work Environment:

This role is based in a manufacturing facility that refurbishes heat exchange units. You will work in a team-oriented setting where daily responsibilities can vary, providing exposure to different areas such as shipping, machining, and welding. The work involves frequent lifting, moving, and stacking of materials, as well as operating around industrial equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes. The facility operates multiple shifts, with first shift typically running from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 4:00–4:30 p.m. and second shift from approximately 12:00 p.m.–2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.–12:30 a.m., depending on scheduling needs.

Shifts are currently 10 hours and may extend to 12 hours, with weekend work (Saturday and Sunday) as needed. The environment is industrial and active, requiring adherence to safety practices and appropriate work attire suitable for a manufacturing setting.

Pay and Benefits:
