Powell Industries is seeking a skilled CAM Machinist to join our Manufacturing team in the Skilled Labor department. In this role, you will program and operate CNC equipment using CAM software to produce high-precision components, interpret engineering drawings, select appropriate tooling, and perform quality checks to meet tight tolerances. You'll collaborate with engineers and production staff to optimize machining processes and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities
- Program, set up, and operate CAM-driven CNC machines to produce precision components to print and specification.
- Create, edit, and optimize CAM toolpaths based on 3
- D models and engineering drawings to improve cycle time and part quality.
- Select tooling, speeds, and feeds appropriate to material and tolerance requirements, adjusting parameters as needed.
- Perform first-article and in-process inspections using precision measurement tools to verify conformance to specifications.
- Troubleshoot machining issues such as chatter, tooling wear, dimensional variation, and surface finish defects.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and production teams to refine manufacturability and suggest design-for-manufacturing improvements.
- Maintain accurate job, setup, and inspection documentation in line with quality standards.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and keep work area organized, clean, and compliant with safety procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, scrap reduction, and process standardization.
- Support training and knowledge sharing with other machinists and team members in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Required Skills
- CAM programming (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar)
- CNC mill and lathe setup and operation
- G-code interpretation and editing3
- D CAD model and technical drawing interpretation
- Toolpath optimization and fixture design
- Precision measurement using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and CMMs
- Material knowledge (metals, alloys, plastics) and cutting parameters
- Machine troubleshooting and basic maintenance
- Quality control and inspection documentation
- Shop math, GD&T, and tolerancing
- Adherence to safety procedures and PPE use
