Pipe Welder
Spitzer, a recognized industry leader in designing and fabricating high-specification equipment, is currently seeking Pipe Welder to join our team.
ExperiencePrevious industrial pipe welding and pipe fabrication experience is required. Candidates whose experience is primarily structural welding, production MIG welding, handrail, structural steel or plate fabrication without pipe fitting/fabrication experience may not meet the requirements of this position.
What Does a Week in the Life of the Pipe Welder Look Like?
- Must be able to read and interpret piping isometric drawings.
- Must understand pipe orientation and direction from an isometric drawing.
- Must be able to calculate pipe grades/slopes.
- Must be able to determine required pipe measurements and dimensions from drawings.
- Must understand and calculate pipe take-offs for fittings and components.
- Must understand basic pipe layout and fabrication principles.
- Must be able to verify measurements, dimensions and orientation before fabrication.
- Must be able to fit and tack carbon steel pipe and components.
- Experience fitting ANSI flanges, forged flanges, elbows, reducers and other piping components.
- Must have experience with MIG/GMAW and Flux Core/FCAW welding processes.
- Must be able to read a tape measure to 1/16 inch or smaller.
- Must be comfortable working with fractions, decimals, degrees and basic shop math.
- Must be able to use grinders and other fabrication tools to prep pipe and fittings.
- Must understand standard shop safety and quality requirements.
Skills (to Pay the Bills)
Here's a list of a few competencies that the Pipe Welder at Spitzer should have…
• Ability to follow shop procedures, quality procedures and safely practices.
• Must have verbal skills with fluency for the responsibilities assigned.
• High School Diploma or its equivalent, and/or Trade School.
• Requires more than 4 years of pipe fitting experience and/or demonstrated ability to perform basic skills according to testing requirements.
• Proficient in basic math including addition/subtraction of whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
• Proficient in reading a tape measure/ruler in increments of 1/16" or smaller and analog /digital level.
• Ability to calculate degrees and circumference using basic algebra and geometry.

Work Schedule
Spitzer currently runs two shifts, Monday through Friday with overtime on weekend work as needed. Late afternoon/evening/weekend hours may be required as needed. Work schedules may change to accommodate production needs.
