Systems Engineer
This role is part of the Ethos Energy O&M (EEOM) Performance Center team. The Performance Center is our 24/7 operations center providing remote monitoring and operational support for power generation assets, including gas, renewables, and energy storage systems.
The UI/UX Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing operator interfaces within AVEVA System Platform (OMI) to support safe, efficient, and intuitive remote plant operations. This individual will translate plant control philosophies and DCS screen standards into modern SCADA visualizations that enhance operator decision-making, reduce cognitive load, and improve reliability outcomes.
The role requires strong collaboration with Performance Center control room operators, control engineers, and software developers to deliver high-performance SCADA interfaces aligned with EEOM remote operations strategy. This position plays a critical role in enabling our next-gen remote operations platform, directly impacting:
- Operator performance and decision-making
- Fleet-wide consistency and scalability
- Reduction in alarms, errors, and manual intervention
- Overall plant reliability and efficiency
- SCADA UI/UX Design & Development
- Design and develop operator graphics, dashboards, and visualization templates in AVEVA System Platform (OMI)
- Recreate and enhance plant DCS screens into standardized Performance Center SCADA interfaces
- Apply UX best practices to improve situational awareness, alarm visibility, and operator workflow efficiency
- Develop reusable object templates and graphic libraries to support scalable deployment across multiple assets User Experience Optimization
- Work directly with remote operators to understand workflows, pain points, and human factors considerations
- Optimize screen layouts for rapid decision-making under normal, startup, and upset conditions
- Standardize visual hierarchy (color usage, alarms, trends, KPIs) across fleet-wide deployments.
- Conduct usability reviews and iterative design improvements based on operator feedback. SCADA Integration & Data Visualization
- Integrate SCADA graphics with underlying data models, alarms, and historian data.
- Configure dynamic elements such as trends, alarms, KPIs, and conditional formatting.
- Ensure consistency between UI design and backend object attributes. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with: SCADA engineers and developers, Performance Center operators, Plant SMEs and control system engineers
- Support onboarding of new assets by developing graphics aligned with site-specific configurations Software Development & Continuous Improvement
- Apply modern UI frameworks and design principles where applicable (e.g., React-based tools or custom web overlays if used alongside SCADA)
- Support Agile development cycles, feature prioritization, and deployment
- Identify opportunities to standardize and automate UI generation across sites
- SCADA architecture and object models
- Industrial data visualization and alarm management
- Human-machine interface (HMI) design principles
- Experience with at least one of the following DCS platforms:
Siemens T3000, Emerson Ovation, ABB, GE Mark VI / Mark VIe - Experience designing intuitive, operator-centric interfaces in industrial environments
- Familiarity with modern UI development tools (preferred):
React / Type Script / CSS, Web-based visualization tools (optional but strongly preferred) - Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience supporting remote operations centers (ROC) or centralized control rooms
- Knowledge of NERC, ISO, and power plant operational workflows
- Experience integrating SCADA with Historians, High performance graphics
- Understanding of alarm rationalization…
