About Houston Children’s Charity and the position
Houston Children's Charity is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for Greater Houston’s underprivileged, abused, and disabled children who have been otherwise left behind.
The scope of our support is limited only by the availability of resources. Our goal is to leave no legitimate request for assistance unanswered.
We are hiring for a Marketing and Communications Director who will bring non-profit marketing and communications experience to this position and your expertise will be relied upon. Working closely with the President & CEO, Administrative Director, and Programs Team, the Marketing & Communications Director will be responsible for all aspects of Marketing, Communications, Social Media, and Public Relations including the following tasks:
Responsibilities- Send press releases at the direction of the President & CEO
- Assist with Press Conferences at the direction of the President & CEO
- Showcase Houston Children’s Charity daily success stories via newsletters, eBlasts, social media (Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, Twitter)
- Develop a plan and manage President & CEO’s social media (Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, and Twitter)
- a. Talking points for the President & CEO as needed
- b. Editorial pieces for Houston Children’s Charity for online and print
- c. Newsletter for Houston Children’s Charity and all the programs within
- d. Creation and execution of eBlasts including – monthly eBlasts that focus on events, Houston Children’s Charity in the Community, and any other possible information that can increase Houston Children’s Charity’s visibility in the community
- e. Create social media graphics & videos, and write cultivating captions for various social media channels
- f. Other marketing editorial pieces as needed
- a. Create overall marketing calendar
- b. Manage all aspects of internal and external marketing, communications, and public relations
- c. Pitch Houston Children’s Charity stories to media, TV, radio, digital and editorial
- d. Create Houston Children’s Charity collateral pieces for individual programs
- e. Submit media alerts & press releases on behalf of HCC at the direction of the President & CEO
- f. Coordinate with media at events
- a. Create and manage social media strategy on Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, and Twitter; using tags and hashtags as necessary; increase Houston Children’s Charity followers; tweet live from events when appropriate
- b. Maintain Houston Children’s Charity website, including uploading photos after events, updating press room with latest newsletters, and writing blog posts
- c. Manage/highlight partners for website and email
- d. Engage with followers across social media channels & maintain CRMs (Customer Relation Management)
- e. Showcase sponsors, donors, volunteers, important HCC news across social media channels
- f. Solicit media ambassadors where possible
- a. Work on event videos with videographer
- b. Work on all event collateral including invitations, programs, and more
- d. Hire photographer – shot list, oversee photographer at event, print & mail out photos & thank you cards
- e. Work with President & CEO on pre and post photos for all media and press
- f. Work all Houston Children’s Charity events as needed
- a. Assist Program Director in communicating, highlighting, and promoting the programs in the community
- Proven experience (5+ years) in progressive non-profit marketing.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills required.
- Strong ties to the Houston community, including an existing network of local contacts and a proven ability to engage community partners and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated proficiency and skill with Microsoft Office applications as well as various graphics software and Word Press.
- Solid understanding of social media
- Proven ability to develop and execute compelling marketing plans, as well as demonstrated presentation and communication skills in formal and informal settings.
- Be self-motivated, innovative, and collaborative, and excel as a multi-tasking, creative, analytical, and quick thinker.
- The desire and ability to represent Houston Children’s Charity in a professional manner.
