General Summary
The Harris County Attorney's Office (HCAO) is hiring a Communications Coordinator to support the work of the Communications and Outreach Division. The Harris County Attorney is the chief civil legal officer for Harris County. The office represents Harris County, its officials, and employees in legal matters and serves the public through impactful litigation and enforcement actions.
The Communications Coordinator will assist in creating and maintaining a wide range of communications materials to support internal and external engagement, with particular focus on the office's internal and external newsletters, website content, and print materials. This position is ideal for someone with strong writing and organizational skills and an understanding of messaging and branding. The Coordinator will work closely with the Communications Manager and the broader team to ensure consistent messaging, up-to-date content, and seamless execution of communications initiatives.
This position reports to the Communications Manager and plays a key role in advancing the mission and initiatives of HCAO through strategic communications support. This position may also oversee interns.
Duties and Responsibilities- Write, design the content flow for, and distribute the office's internal and external newsletters on a regular schedule.
- Draft and edit communications materials including brochures, handouts, one-pagers, and other print materials.
- Update and maintain copy on the HCAO website in coordination with subject matter experts; serve as the Communications team's lead liaison with IT for website updates, including identifying when and what content needs to be updated (no web design or development experience required).
- Support internal communications, including maintaining the HCAO intranet site and drafting internal emails.
- Draft social media copy to support the Multimedia team's content calendar.
- Support the creation of other materials as needed, including presentations and internal documents.
- Maintain editorial calendars and help track deliverables, deadlines, and creative assets for ongoing campaigns.
- Assist with light project management duties, ensuring timely completion of content and collateral with proper branding.

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and
- Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of experience in a communications, public affairs, marketing, or similar role.
- Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of experience with communications strategy, writing, public relations, or similar experience.
- Experience may include job experience, internships, fellowships, and other related experience.
- An Associate Degree may be substituted for additional experience.
- Ability to attend events that occur outside of typical working hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to tailor content for different audiences and formats.
- Basic knowledge of communications strategy and messaging principles.
- Comfort learning and working within a content management system for website updates.
- Familiarity with email newsletter platforms and social media platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, X).
