About the Role

The Communications & Public Relations Manager is a highly visible role responsible for shaping how HHCI is seen, understood, and experienced by the public. This position leads strategic communications, media relations, executive visibility, brand storytelling, and reputation management to elevate HHCI as a trusted voice in mental health.

Working closely with executive leadership, philanthropy, clinical teams, and community partners, this individual develops compelling narratives that increase public awareness, strengthen donor confidence, support fundraising initiatives, and position HHCI as a leading nonprofit advancing mental health through innovation, education, and compassionate care.

What You'll Do
  • Lead HHCI's external communications and public relations strategy to increase awareness and strengthen organizational reputation.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media, including reporters, editors, producers, and community outlets.
  • Identify and secure earned media opportunities that highlight HHCI's programs, experts, community impact, partnerships, and thought leadership.
  • Develop press releases, media pitches, op-eds, talking points, executive remarks, FAQs, and other external communications.
  • Serve as communications lead for organizational announcements, issues management, crisis communications, and reputation management.
  • Partner with executive leadership to elevate organizational and subject-matter-expert visibility through interviews, speaking engagements, articles, panels, and community events.
  • Lead storytelling that translates clinical outcomes, community impact, and donor investment into clear, compelling narratives for public and stakeholder audiences.
  • Develop communications that support fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship, grants, institutional partnerships, and community engagement.
  • Oversee brand messaging and ensure consistency across media materials, digital channels, reports, events, presentations, and public-facing communications.
  • Manage signature communications, including the annual report, impact stories, newsletters, website content, social media messaging, and leadership communications.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners on integrated campaigns that support awareness, engagement, and mission advancement.
  • Monitor media coverage, audience engagement, and communications performance; use insights to improve strategy and effectiveness.
What You Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in public relations, communications, media relations, nonprofit communications, corporate communications, or brand communications.
  • Proven success developing media strategies, securing earned media coverage, and cultivating relationships with journalists and media outlets.
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills across formats, including press releases, executive communications, speeches, opinion pieces, donor communications, and impact stories.
