Director of Disaster Recovery and Community Resilience
At Greater Houston Community Foundation, you will lead high-impact disaster recovery and community resilience initiatives that strengthen the greater Houston region before, during, and after disasters. As Director of Disaster Recovery & Community Resilience, you will drive strategy and implementation for disaster preparedness, response, long-term recovery, and climate resilience efforts; lead and coordinate the Greater Houston Disaster Alliance in partnership with United Way of Greater Houston;
represent the Community Foundation within the emerging Gulf Coast Community Foundation Resilience Network; and align nonprofits, public agencies, and philanthropic partners to strengthen disaster and climate resilience efforts that support our fund holders and the broader community.
This role requires a mission-driven leader who is future-oriented, a strategist, builder, and executor with expertise in disaster response and recovery, cross-sector collaboration, stakeholder engagement, data-driven strategy, and systems-level execution to deliver measurable community impact across Greater Houston.

To thrive as the Director of Disaster Recovery & Community Resilience, you should have:
- Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social Sciences, Emergency Management, or related field required; minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in the social sector with demonstrated leadership in disaster response, disaster recovery, community resilience, philanthropy, or community development.
- Proven experience leading disaster recovery and resilience initiatives, nonprofit capacity building, and cross-sector collaboration with public, private, and community-based organizations; experience engaging elected officials and local/regional government preferred.
- Solid strategic thinking, systems-level problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills with demonstrated ability to design and execute evidence-based programs, manage multiple work streams, navigate complex environments, and deliver measurable outcomes; experience with grantmaking, philanthropic fund administration, and using grant management systems and data tools preferred.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills with solid emotional intelligence and relationship-building abilities; demonstrated leadership and team management experience preferred; ability to travel locally and regionally as needed and proficiency in English required.
- Provide strategic leadership for the Greater Houston Disaster Alliance and Community Foundation Resilience Network, advancing disaster preparedness, response, long-term recovery, and climate resilience initiatives through evidence-based programming.
- Lead disaster recovery grantmaking and joint disaster funds, overseeing fund administration, grantmaking strategy, reporting, and grant portal optimization to ensure equitable, efficient, and data-driven philanthropic response.
