Volunteer: Community Outreach & Safety Education

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Texas Center for the Missing (TCM).

Texas Center for the Missing is a Houston-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and the designated AMBER Alert provider for 14 counties in the Houston-Galveston region. We provide crisis intervention, prevention, and community education focused on child abductions, runaway prevention, internet safety, and endangered adults.

Our mission is to reduce the number of missing and at-risk children and adults by educating families, training law enforcement, and raising community awareness. TCM maintains 24/7 readiness to activate emergency alerts and community resources to help bring missing individuals home safely.

• Assisting staff with training sessions, community education programs, outreach events, and special projects.
• Distributing educational resources to families and community partners.
• Working alongside staff and fellow volunteers to support TCM's mission of keeping children and endangered adults safe.

Due to the nature of our work, we require each volunteer to undergo a criminal background check prior to working with our clients.
All volunteers must successfully complete a criminal background check before working with clients or representing TCM at events

We hold several large events throughout the year as well as volunteer at multiple smaller events we attend every month through the greater metro Houston area.

Represent TCM at health fairs, festivals, back-to-school events, and other community gatherings by distributing child identification kits and educational materials on child safety, abduction prevention, and internet safety. These events are typically held on Saturdays throughout the Greater Houston area.

Support one of TCM's annual fundraising events, including:

• Champions for Children Gala (typically held on a Saturday in March)
• Charity Golf Tournament (typically held on a Tuesday or Thursday in late September)
• Amberfest (family-friendly Oktoberfest celebration, typically held on a Sunday in late October)

Volunteers generally work 3-hour shifts during these events.

These opportunities may be performed from Texas Center for the Missing's Office or from your own home or workplace.

Call businesses and other prospective community partners to promote our programs and/or secure contact names, mailing addresses, phone/fax numbers, and E-mail addresses for the National Missing Children’s Day Poster Contest.

Fold letters, stuff envelopes, and put on labels, for invitation and newsletter distributions, as well as information packets for educational programs.

Translate Texas Center for the Missing safety information flyers and presentations to serve the diverse communities in the Greater Houston Area.

These opportunities may only be performed after specialized training is provided by Texas Center for the Missing.

Internet Safety presentations are multi-media presentations provided to children, teens, and parents – each age-specific presentation is designed to be given to groups of 25 - 50 people in a school, place of worship, or social organization setting – or via Zoom. The Net Smartz Internet Safety presentations include handouts, resource materials, and a multi-media presentation.
