General
Summary:
The Harris County Attorney's Office (HCAO) serves as the chief civil legal office for Harris County, representing county officials and employees in lawsuits and providing legal support on matters affecting residents. The office also serves the broader community through impactful litigation, enforcement of laws that protect residents, and strategic outreach. The Communications and Outreach Division seeks an experienced, highly organized, and community-minded professional to join our team as a Community Engagement Specialist.
This role acts as a connector between the office and the public, ensuring that residents receive timely information, helpful resources, and opportunities for engagement. The Specialist manages constituent services, identifies community needs, supports outreach strategies, and contributes to meaningful programs and events that strengthen the relationship between the HCAO and the community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Manage constituent inquiries by providing timely, accurate information and helping residents navigate available resources.
* Attend events, meetings, and community gatherings across Harris County on behalf of the office.
* Track questions, issues, and follow-up needs through organized systems that ensure consistent and reliable customer service.
* Identify trends or recurring concerns raised by constituents and collaborate internally on solutions and communication strategies.
* Plan and support outreach events such as resource fairs, community information sessions, neighborhood meetings, and other public-facing programs.
* Identify needs within specific areas of Harris County and work with community partners to coordinate relevant events or workshops.
* Assist with event logistics including scheduling, partner coordination, materials preparation, and on-site support.
* Work with Outreach Coordinators to identify areas of the county where additional outreach or education is needed.
* Prepare issue briefings, background information, and talking points for Outreach Coordinators ahead of community meetings.
* Review notes and feedback from Outreach Coordinators and ensure appropriate follow-up.
* Collaborate with Outreach Coordinators to identify individuals and organizations appropriate for official proclamations.
* Draft and prepare proclamations, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
* Monitor important updates relevant to specific communities and coordinate timely notification to community leaders.
* Provide updates through emails, talking points, and attendance at community events.
* Maintain and improve tracking systems for constituent services and outreach interactions.
* Develop reporting to highlight outreach successes, areas for improvement, and emerging needs.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
* A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
* Minimum two (2) to four (4) years of experience in relevant positions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including AP-style writing experience.
* Ability to think strategically, manage demanding situations, and exercise sound judgment.
