House of Amos is a 501c3 charitable organization located in the Alief area. Our mission is to relieve hunger, keep people in their homes and improve the lives of people in need in our community. We fulfill this mission through our emergency food pantry, financial assistance for rent and utilities and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for adults. House of Amos is able to provide these services through the generosity of individual supporters, foundations, churches, schools and businesses.

House of Amos currently does not receive any federal funding.

House of Amos is seeking an experienced individual to handle fundraising for the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for community outreach, social media and identifying and securing grant funding for the organization’s programs and initiatives. This position requires the ability to write grant requests and reports to the Board of Directors. This is a part time, 20 hour week job, requiring the individual to office at House of Amos and perform outreach in the surrounding community.

Work will be done on a House of Amos computer.

Responsibilities and duties:
  • Create and implement a fundraising strategy. Oversee fundraising effort
  • Create and implement strategies to promote the organization’s mission
  • Develop and implement an effective non-profit marketing and promotion strategy
  • Spearhead outreach initiatives and fundraising campaigns
  • Be active and visible in the community to foster strategic partnerships and engage the community. Contact businesses, churches, schools and others to raise awareness and secure support for House of Amos’ services. Support includes monetary, food donations, volunteers etc.
  • Create compelling content for various channels including social media, website, email newsletters and press releases
  • Establish a media presence to secure support by increasing awareness of the organization and services provided
  • Manage social media platforms and online presence
  • Serve as the organization’s primary spokesperson to supporters, the media and the general public
  • Research and identify potential grant opportunities that align with the organization’s mission and goals
  • Write and submit grant requests to potential funders to successfully raise income for programs and services
  • Maintain accurate records of grant submissions and outcomes
  • Communicate effectively with the Board of Directors. A weekly activity report is required to be emailed to your primary contact detailing your activities, accomplishments and progress.

  • Computer skills including the ability to create fundraising flyers. Knowledge of Google sheets and documents
  • Ability to form and maintain positive relationships with funding providers and other supporters
  • Creativity
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and how to use social media to increase awareness and gain support for the organization
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in written work
  • Ability to work independently while also being a team player
  • Persuasive writing skills
  • Passion for helping people in need to improve their lives
  • Reliable transportation to travel in the community to raise awareness and fund raise
  • Proven, successful experience with grant writing and fundraising
Compensation:

$28.50 per hour - no benefits. Paid for time worked.

20 hours a week

  • Mileage reimbursement for business travel from House of Amos to meetings and networking events. The reimbursement rate will be the rate established by the IRS.
