Director of Children’s Ministry Position

Reports To: Senior Pastor
Status: Full-Time, Exempt/Salaried
Schedule: Five days per week, including most Sundays. Attendance at weekly staff meetings and other scheduled meetings is required. Evening and weekend responsibilities will occasionally be necessary.

Position Summary

At Kinsmen Lutheran Church, we believe every child is a beloved child of God and every family plays a vital role in nurturing faith. The Director of Children’s Ministry provides visionary leadership for faith formation programs serving children and families, equips parents and volunteers to nurture faith at home, and strengthens the partnership between Kinsmen Lutheran Church and Kinsmen Children’s Academy (KCA).

This role also provides strategic oversight and support for KCA, ensuring alignment with the ministry’s mission, values, and operational standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Faith Formation Leadership

  • Lead and develop children’s faith formation ministries that help children and families grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Equip parents and caregivers to fulfill their baptismal promises by providing resources and opportunities for faith formation at home.
  • Train and support volunteers who will nurture children’s faith and spiritual growth.
  • Collaborate with church staff to create engaging worship, service, fellowship, and educational opportunities for children and families.
  • Organize events, retreats, and experiences that foster faith, relationships, and a sense of belonging within the church community.

Kinsmen Children’s Academy Oversight & Church Partnership

  • Provide strategic oversight to ensure KCA fulfills its mission of “growing children for a life rooted in faith.”
  • Support, coach, and encourage the KCA Director and staff, ensuring they have the training and resources needed to succeed.
  • Assist in daily operations when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with Texas Department of Family and Protective Services licensing requirements and maintain documentation for regulatory reviews.
  • Build strong relationships and communication between Kinsmen Lutheran Church and Kinsmen Children’s Academy (KCA), advocating for both ministries and ensuring alignment of resources and mission.
  • Partner with the KCA School Board, Church Council, and church leadership to align governance, financial stewardship, and long-term planning.
  • Create meaningful opportunities for KCA families to engage in worship, service, and other aspects of church life.
  • Integrate faith formation, child development best practices, and the church’s mission into KCA’s programs.
  • Monitor community needs and trends to help strengthen and sustain KCA’s ministry and impact.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in children’s ministry or education.
  • Experience serving in a church, nonprofit, or faith-based organization.
  • Demonstrated personal spiritual maturity and a passion for nurturing children and families.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), including its theology, structure, and worship practices.
  • Experience working in an early childhood education program or childcare setting
  • Ability to promote programs through social media and digital communications.
  • Working knowledge of Canva and other content creation tools.
