ABOUT - Cross Walk Center (CWC) is a faith-based, non-profit 501 (c) (3) social enterprise that is serves individuals pre- and post-release from incarceration.

The Volunteer Program Coordinator is responsible for cultivating, equipping, shepherding, deploying, and retaining the volunteers who make Cross Walk Center's ministry possible.

As the primary day-to-day relationship point for Cross Walk volunteers, this position guides individuals from initial interest to meaningful, effective, and sustained engagement. The coordinator ensures volunteers are welcomed, equipped, appropriately placed, supported, and connected to Cross Walk's mission of Advancing God's Kingdom through Seamless Re-entry Discipleship.

The Volunteer Coordinator owns the execution of volunteer experience. This is a highly relational position. Volunteers are not simply resources to be scheduled to fill needs but to develop a community of volunteers who are known, equipped, growing, and encouraged.

The Volunteer Coordinator does not simply manage volunteers—they shepherd people who have chosen to participate in and are deeply connected to Cross Walk's mission.

  • Recruit, Train, Equip & Onboard
    • Develop and maintain the volunteer pipeline
    • Recruit through approved churches, community organizations, events, referrals, personal relationships, and other channels
    • Respond promptly and relationally to prospective volunteers and guide them through the recruitment process.
    • Execute the volunteer recruitment strategy.
    • Coordinate onboarding from application through active service, including background checks, orientations, required training, TDCJ requirements, and other approvals.
    • Ensure volunteers understand the Cross Walk mission, values, methodology, policies, boundaries, and expectations.
    • Help volunteers identify service opportunities aligned with their gifts, interests, experience, availability, and calling.
    • Maintain accurate records related to volunteer onboarding and readiness.
    Place & Deploy
    • Match volunteers with appropriate service opportunities within Cross Walk programs, in prison and out; including but not limited to coaching, mentoring, discipling, Bible studies, events, and other ministry program activities.
    • Coordinate assignments and schedules with appropriate staff and proactively identify coverage gaps.
    • Follow up with volunteers after initial service to ensure they have the support needed to serve effectively.
    Shepherd, Grow & Retain
    • Develop genuine, ongoing relationships with Cross Walk volunteers. Regularly check in regarding their experience, needs, challenges, and engagement.
    • Help volunteers feel known, valued, connected, and appreciated while monitoring satisfaction, growth, and retention.
    • Recognize contributions, address disengagement, and help volunteers become increasingly effective in serving.
    • Identify opportunities for volunteers to deepen their involvement and cultivate a culture in which volunteers experience Cross Walk as community.
    • Gather volunteer feedback and recommend improvements to the volunteer experience.
    Communicate & Administrate
    • Maintain accurate weekly records and track recruitment, onboarding, participation, hours, retention, satisfaction, and other agreed-upon KPIs.
    • Maintain consistent communication with active and prospective volunteers regarding schedules, training, events, opportunities, and organizational updates.
    • Provide regular volunteer updates and data to the Outreach & Engagement Director.
    • Use volunteer data and feedback to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
    Coordinate Between Volunteers & Operations Staff
    • Serve as the communication bridge between volunteers and the Operations staff.
    • Respond appropriately when volunteers encounter resident, house, scheduling, behavioral, safety, or logistical concerns.
