Summary

This position is responsible for leading the recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and communication of volunteers for Nutcracker Market and Nutcracker Market SPRING. Serving as the primary point of contact for volunteers, this role works closely with staff and committee chairs to ensure strong volunteer coverage, a positive and rewarding volunteer experience, and seamless event execution.

This is a part-time, hourly, seasonal position with varying weekly hours based on the event calendar:

  • January-July: 15 hours per week with a flexible schedule
  • August-November: 25 hours per week
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interface with volunteers via email and phone, including sending out notices via Shiftboard platform.
  • Create and update volunteer schedules via Shiftboard.
  • Facilitate volunteer screening in conjunction with Human Resources.
  • Liaise with partner organizations on corporate volunteer opportunities.
  • Manage and serve as the main point of contact for general volunteers including answering questions, sending instructions and coordinating delivery of parking passes.
  • Create and update materials related to volunteer participation and job duties such as brochures.
  • Serve as liaison for Volunteer Engagement and Market Entry Committees onsite during the run of the Nutcracker Market.
  • In conjunction with the Nutcracker Market and Special Events team, create volunteer schedules (including committee and general volunteers) and track all volunteer hours post-event.
  • Assist the Assistant Director, Nutcracker Market, with committee communication and scheduling.
  • Serve as the primary resource for volunteer questions and concerns.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging volunteer environment.
  • Ensure compliance with Houston Ballet Code of Conduct and other organizational policies.
  • Assist Nutcracker Market team with preparing mailings, supply boxes and other items as needed ahead of the Market.
  • Availability to work during the run of the Nutcracker Market at Reliant Center, leading volunteer check-in and stewarding volunteer operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree preferred
  • One-three years' experience coordinating volunteers, staff or related programs, data entry and customer service preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience working with Shiftboard platform a significant plus
Work Environment
  • Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
  • Hours vary throughout the year, averaging three days a week in the off-season (Jan-July) increasing to four days a week in peak season (Aug-November). Evening and weekends and significant work time are required during the Nutcracker Market.
