Survivor Relations and Events Coordinator POSITION SUMMARY

The Survivor Relations and Events Coordinator is a full-time, exempt staff position responsible for Survivor and descendants’ initiatives and Holocaust commemorative events. This position also plans public programs connected to HMH’s permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions, collaborates with community partners, coordinates Jewish community events, and supervises program logistics for all initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee Survivor relations such as Survivor events, serve as liaison for the Survivor and Descendants community, and support 3

    GHTX initiatives.
  • Research, organize, and facilitate public programs around our permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions.
  • Supervise the administrative details of public programs, such as corresponding with speakers, managing travel and accommodations, negotiating contracts, arranging event logistics, ordering books, and budget development.
  • Collaborates with Jewish institutions and organizations to host community events, such as the Houton Jewish Film Festival, the Jewish Book & Arts Festival, and Yom Limmud.
  • Coordinates Holocaust remembrance programs and anniversary events such as the Citywide Yom HaShoah Commemoration, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, and Zikaron BaSalon.
  • Present professionally on public programs, community partnerships, and Survivor/Descendants initiatives to HMH stakeholders and the general public.
  • Oversee the Speaker’s Bureau program by scheduling speaking engagements for descendants at the museum and local schools, managing training and evaluation process for new speakers, promoting and recruiting schools to participate in Speaker’s Bureau program, and expanding Speaker’s Bureau volunteer corps.
  • Cross departmental collaboration to market events and programs, support temporary exhibits and manage data collection.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in history, Holocaust Studies, Jewish Studies, or other related subjects.
  • Familiarity with Jewish history, culture, and religious customs.
  • Experience in organizing community events, public programs, and workshops for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience in developing partnerships with organizations and institutions, particularly Jewish serving organizations.
  • Experience in program management and facilitation.
  • 1-3 years of experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s degree in history, Holocaust Studies, Jewish Studies, or other related subjects.
  • Knowledge of and experience in Holocaust and Jewish education.
REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
  • Technical skills: proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google programs, Zoom, and Canva; comfortable working with theater and technological equipment.
  • Behavioral competencies: ability to collaborate with internal teams and external partners; strong interpersonal skills to develop meaningful relationships with staff and community partners; sound judgment and professional demeanor when working with others; ability to take initiative on projects while being receptive to directions and feedback; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Cognitive skills: strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail; ability to adapt to different audiences and/or situations; effective communication and public speaking skills; strong organizational and time management skills; ability to multitask and meet deadlines
