Assistant Director of Development

Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Assistant Director of Development for a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to affordable home ownership and strengthening communities throughout the Houston area. This is a direct-hire, full-time, exempt, hybrid position based in Houston, TX, with three days onsite and two days remote.

The Assistant Director of Development will provide strategic and hands-on leadership for a dynamic fundraising team while driving foundation, grant, and institutional giving efforts. This position will manage a portfolio of foundation and organizational funders, cultivate significant funding opportunities, and partner with organizational leadership to develop strategies that increase revenue and donor engagement. The ideal candidate is an experienced nonprofit fundraising professional who enjoys both leading and developing a team and personally securing significant philanthropic support.

Competitive compensation of approximately $89,000-$105,000 annually, pending final confirmation. Hybrid schedule offering three days onsite and two days remote each week. Develop and implement fundraising strategies, donor pipeline initiatives, forecasts, and performance reporting to support annual revenue goals. Manage relationships with a portfolio of 75+ foundation and organizational funders, identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and closing significant funding opportunities. Lead foundation and grant fundraising efforts, including developing compelling proposals, donor communications, reports, and organizational storytelling. Directly manage and develop a team of five fundraising professionals, establishing KPIs, monitoring performance, coaching team members, and supporting professional development and retention.

Partner cross-functionally on funding strategies, ensure compliance with funding agreements, and oversee giving-circle programs, including annual and monthly giving initiatives. Represent the organization with donors, prospects, volunteers, and community partners at events and other engagement opportunities, including occasional activities at construction sites or warehouse locations.

Demonstrated nonprofit fundraising experience with a strong background in foundation/institutional giving, grant writing, donor cultivation, and securing significant gifts; experience with six-figure funding opportunities is highly valued. Proven people-management experience, including successfully leading, coaching, and holding a fundraising team accountable to individual and departmental goals. Strong grant writing, storytelling, presentation, and relationship-management skills with the ability to communicate an organization's mission effectively to funders and community partners.

Proficiency with Salesforce, donor database platforms, Microsoft Office, and Excel, along with strong organizational, analytical, forecasting, and reporting skills. Mission-driven and collaborative leadership style with the ability to thrive in a hands-on environment;
Spanish/English bilingual skills, fundraising/nonprofit certifications, and connections within the greater Houston philanthropic community are preferred.

This position offers an anticipated annual salary range of $89,000-$105,000, pending final confirmation, along with the organization’s comprehensive employee benefits package. The organization also offers the potential to earn a goal-based quarterly bonus; bonus eligibility and payout are not guaranteed. This is a full-time, exempt, direct-hire opportunity with a hybrid schedule of three days onsite and two days remote in Houston, TX.
