Our PICU is divided into 4 cohorts for better patient outcomes.
The 4 cohorts are:
* 9 LT:
Surgical and Neuro-surgical ICU that encompasses post liver & kidney transplants, trauma patients, seizure disorder patients, and post-operative patients
* 10 LT: MICU focusing on pulmonary/pulmonary hypertension patients, bone marrow transplant/hematology/oncology patients
* 11 LT: MICU that encompasses a mix of medical-surgical patients.
* 12 LT:
Transitional ICU is a unique cohort that focuses on our chronic, technology dependent patients who need intense education with the patient and family before discharging home.
As a PICU nurse, you will work with patients in each cohort.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in nursing or an associate's degree, technical diploma, or current enrollment in a nursing bridge program is required +signed agreement
* Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas or Nurse Licensure Compact and BLS American Heart Association certification are required
* 9 months of professional nursing experience
* The ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills
* Demonstrate good time and resource management skills
* Demonstrate flexibility
* Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills
* Operate unit specific equipment
* Able to work nights
* Knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, PALS, ACLS and interdisciplinary collaboration

Responsibilities:
* Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental ( age - appropriate), culture, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner.
* Analyzes situations, anticipates potential problem, and detects changes in patient status
* Re-prioritizes and updates plan of care based on new information and changes to the patient's condition; communicates this information to other health care team members and documents in the medical record.
* Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and/or patient care conferences and documents in the medical record
* Assists patients/family in implementing their role in the plan of care as appropriate
* Assess patient family learning needs capabilities, preferences, and readiness to learn prior to teaching.
* Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients/families, visitors, peers, and other health care team members.
* Administers and documents medications and treatments in a timely manner.
* Demonstrates willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performance.
* Participate in unit performance improvement initiatives.
