Position: Oncology Clinic and Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) - Houston Northwest

Texas Oncology is looking for an Oncology Clinic and Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team! This position will support the Northwest Houston, Texas locations. It is Monday‑Friday with no weekends or holidays and no on‑call duties. The RN role will be Level I, II, or Senior based on candidate experience.

What does the Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) do?

Under minimal supervision, the RN provides professional nursing care for patients in line with national and company standards. The RN demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental differences across age groups and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to assess and manage patient and family needs. The RN supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities
  • Oncology Clinic RN
    • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote continuity of care according to established standards.
    • Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding current status and medical history.
    • Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and instructional material.
    • Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
    • Manage patient medication refill requests, schedule consultations and tests, triage phone calls, and facilitate communication between patients, families, and interdisciplinary team.
    • Assist patients in locating available community resources.
  • Inter‑professional Collaboration
    • Act as a resource for LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.
  • Infusion Clinic RN
    • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote continuity of care.
    • Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching.
    • Prepare and administer therapies under the direction of a physician.
    • Administer medications and blood products with correct dosage, route, and technique.
    • Obtain pre‑authorization and consent forms prior to therapy administration.
    • Facilitate dose modification by assessing labs and consulting protocols or physicians.
    • Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central lines.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatments.
    • Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
Qualifications

Education/Training

  • Graduate from an accredited professional nursing education program (BSN preferred).
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements.

Experience Levels

  • Level I
    • 0–3 years nursing experience; oncology experience strongly preferred.
  • Level II
    • Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience; oncology experience strongly preferred.
  • Level Senior
    • Minimum five (5) years nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology.
    • Oncology certification preferred.

The work environment may involve exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other typical oncology clinic conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Physical Requirements

The position requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, eye–hand coordination, standing and walking for extended periods, and occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs. Corrected vision and hearing to normal range are required.
