At Houston Hospice, we focus on caring, not curing. We take a team approach to care that includes physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, hospice aides, volunteers, and bereavement counselors. We provide hospice services wherever patients and families need us: in their home, in a long‑term care facility, or in our inpatient care unit based in the Texas Medical Center. Our team of doctors and nurses specializes in managing pain and symptoms that are unique to life‑limiting illnesses.
Aboutthe Role
Houston Hospice is seeking a decisive, mission‑driven Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to lead and elevate our hospice nursing practice. This executive would be responsible for setting clinical vision, ensuring exceptional patient and family‑centered care, and driving quality, compliance, and operational excellence across all hospice services. The ideal candidate combines deep clinical expertise with strong leadership, regulatory fluency, and the ability to build high‑performing, compassionate teams.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic leadership for all nursing and clinical services within our hospice program
- Ensure delivery of high‑quality, patient‑centered end‑of‑life care aligned with best practices and organizational values
- Oversee clinical operations, including staffing models, productivity, and resource allocation
- Lead quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives; monitor outcomes and implement data‑driven improvements
- Maintain full compliance with federal, state, and accrediting body regulations
- Partner with the C‑suite to develop and execute organizational strategy, growth initiatives, and service expansion
- Recruit, mentor, and retain top nursing talent; foster a culture of accountability, compassion, and continuous learning
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, holistic patient care
- Manage clinical budgets and ensure fiscal responsibility without compromising care quality
- Represent the organization with community partners, referral sources, and regulatory agencies
- Active RN license in Texas; BSN required, MSN or higher preferred
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive nursing leadership experience
- Demonstrated experience in hospice or palliative care preferred
- Deep knowledge of hospice regulations, Conditions of Participation, and accreditation standards
- Proven ability to lead large, distributed clinical teams and drive measurable outcomes
- Strong financial proficiency and experience managing budgets
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and change management skills
