The primary purpose of the Advanced Practice Provider (APRN/PA) in the Department of Hospital Medicine is to promote and maintain the health of HM patients across the care continuum, supporting inpatient hospitalist programs. The department operates 24/7/365, so nocturnal shifts are supported by hospitalist advanced practice providers for after‑hours and weekend coverage, rotating holidays, and COVID coverage.
This will be an inpatient night shift role covering 6:30 pm‑5:00 am, working a 7‑on‑7‑off shift (Tuesday‑Mondays).
Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate is a patient‑centered, highly collaborative clinician who excels in a fast‑paced, 24/7 inpatient environment and is comfortable supporting day, nocturnal, weekend, holiday, and surge coverage. This individual brings strong clinical judgment and autonomy, performing comprehensive histories, physical and psychosocial assessments, interpreting diagnostic data, and developing and communicating effective treatment plans in partnership with attending physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
The candidate demonstrates a solid foundation in pathophysiology, differential diagnosis, and pharmacologic management, applies analytic thinking to complex clinical situations, and delivers timely, efficient, and compassionate care tailored to diverse patient populations. They are committed to service excellence, professionalism, ethical practice, and patient safety, fostering respectful communication, collegiality, and effective service recovery. A passion for education and academic engagement is essential, including patient and family education, participation in clinical research, and teaching/mentoring advanced practice students, house officers, medical students, and nursing staff.

- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including medical history, physical examinations, and psychosocial evaluations.
- Evaluate patient outcomes in collaboration with attending physicians and develop, implement, and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
- Monitor and interpret laboratory, radiographic, and procedural data to support patient disposition decisions; visually evaluate data and prepare accurate written documentation.
- Communicate assessment findings, diagnostic results, and treatment updates effectively to physicians, multidisciplinary team members, patients, and family members.
- Promote collaboration and open communication among healthcare team members, colleagues, and partner organizations to protect and advance the best interests of patients.
- Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, side‑effect management, and anticipatory guidance.
- Participate in and support clinical research protocols by interviewing patients, reviewing eligibility criteria, and identifying potential candidates for studies.
- Deliver patient and family education and conduct in‑service training for nursing staff related to protocol requirements; serve as a liaison among patients, families, physicians, and other personnel.
- Participate in the education and mentoring of advanced practice nursing students, house officers, and medical students; instruct allied health coworkers in accurate patient documentation and data entry.
