The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Clinical Nurse to join the Head & Neck/Plastics Reconstruction inpatient unit. The Clinical Nurse plays a vital role in delivering specialized care to patients with complex needs, including airway management, microvascular flap monitoring, and advanced wound care. The Clinical Nurse will work in a highly collaborative environment, supporting multidisciplinary care teams and contributing to high-quality patient outcomes.

Minimum $32.69 – Midpoint $50.58 – Maximum $68.51.

The typical work schedule is nights, 7 pm – 7 am with a workweek of 36 hours including weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and provide comprehensive patient care within the assigned inpatient unit.
  • Assess patient needs and coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborate with physicians, services, patients, and families to plan and evaluate care.
  • Deliver safe, compassionate care including medication administration and procedures.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and complex clinical situations.
  • Integrate research findings and theoretical knowledge into clinical practice.
  • Participate in data collection efforts for current clinical studies.
  • Demonstrate clinical competency in specialized areas such as airway management and wound care.
  • Document patient care in accordance with established standards.
  • Access, input, and retrieve patient information using computer systems.
  • Ensure continuity of care through discharge planning and patient education.
  • Coordinate services to support transitions of care.
  • Advocate for patient and family rights and needs.
  • Train, coach, and assist team members to support optimal patient care.
  • Promote efficient use of resources and collaborative team performance.
Education
  • Required:

    Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Preferred:
    Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
Work Experience
  • Required:

    None.
  • Preferred:
    Two years experience in a hospital setting working in oncology.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Required:

    RN – Registered Nurse – State Licensure (Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license) upon hire.
  • Required:

    ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support upon hire.
  • Required:

    PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support (if working in the following department: NRS Post Anesthesia Care Unit 600160) upon hire.
  • Preferred: OCN – Oncology Nurse Certification upon hire.
  • Preferred:
    Certification in specialty practice area upon hire.
