The Nurse Navigator role at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center supports a highly specialized Theranostics program within the Department of Nuclear Medicine. This department delivers complex, multi-cycle radiopharmaceutical therapies and coordinates care across imaging, radiation safety, nuclear pharmacy, and referring oncology teams to ensure safe, effective, and timely treatment for patients with cancer.
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. In this environment, the Nurse Navigator serves as a central coordinator and patient advocate, ensuring continuity of care across the treatment continuum. The Nurse Navigator role is critical to reducing administrative burden on clinical faculty, improving patient throughput, and supporting the sustainable growth of advanced theranostic therapies.
The Nurse Navigator collaborates closely with inter-professional teams and external providers to deliver evidence-based, patient-centered care.
The ideal candidate for the Nurse Navigator role is a registered nurse with a bachelor's level degree preferred, at least two years of medical-surgical nursing experience preferred, and an active State of Texas registered nursing license with current BLS or CPR certification. Specialty certification relevant to the practice area is preferred. This individual demonstrates strong clinical judgment, organizational skills, and the ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Hours:
Monday - Friday / 8 am - 5 pm (however, there is a high level of customer service that may occur outside of the hours / no weekends / no call / no holidays

Responsibilities
Patient Care Coordination and Navigation
* Coordinate and implement patient care across the continuum for theranostic therapies including Pluvicto, Lutathera, and Iodine-131
* Review imaging, laboratory results, and medical history to identify and facilitate entry of qualifying patients into the theranostics program
* Triage newly diagnosed cases and obtain medical information to support initial consultations
* Coordinate multi-cycle treatment scheduling, follow-up assessments, and therapy logistics
* Act as a patient and family advocate to uphold patient rights and support informed decision-making
Theranostics Program Operations
* Oversee patient logistics, therapy coordination, and Epic order management
* Coordinate nuclear pharmacy radiopharmaceutical dose ordering and delivery
* Collaborate with nuclear medicine physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, technologists, nuclear pharmacists, radiation safety, imaging physics, and referring oncology teams
* Serve as a liaison with referring providers, including those outside UT MD Anderson
* Reduce non-clinical administrative burden on faculty to support scalable program growth
